Hello from Italy!
« on: 21 Feb 2022, 01:32 pm »
Good morning all,
my name's Andrea and I'm from Italy, nice to meet you!
I'm an audiophile since >15 years but I'm not an expert at all..just very passionate about the topic :)
My chain is composed by:
First DAC: Gustard X-26 Pro
Second DAC: Emotiva DC-1
Transport: SOtM SMS-200 Ultra Neo + SOtM linear sps-500 + SOtm TX-USB reclocker
Second transport: Gustard u16
Amplifiers: Emotiva XPA-1L (2 monoblocks), Naim NAP100 clone, Ferson 80wx2@8 ohm(vintage italian brand, mosfet based), Marantz 1090
Speakers: Aliante Moda Pininfarina / Genelec 8050a (active)
External Master Clock reference: generic chinese not well identified / Gustard c16 (connected to both SOtM devices, Gustard u16 and Gustard dac)
Software: Roon + PCM/DSD offline files and Qobuz.

Indeed, I have two chains, one with the Aliante speakers and the other one with the Genelec speakers.
I'm here just to improve my knowledge and curiosity!
Of course feel free to ask me whatever  ;)
Thank you all! :green:

Welcome!

Had an Emotiva DC-1, thought it sounded a bit mechanical but was very dynamic and detailed.  Auditioned a Genelec 8050a and thought the midrange prominence came and went but wasn't. familiar with the rest of the gear.  I also vacillate between passive and active loudspeakers, although my passives are single driver design.

Wish the Aliante website was available in English.

Hi, how did you try the Emotiva?I felt the same, particulary using the USB interface, much better with the Gustard u16 "driving" it with a mogami AES/EBU cable and disabling the ASRC.
Regarding the Genelec also, I agree they're not perfect, of course, but I like to have active monitors in order to have an idea of how it sounds the "source", unfortunately my "passive" chain is not so "transparent"...however I would like to buy ATC SCMxxx monitors since are so well high regarded but...never had the chance to listen to them and I can't invest so much money only on assumptions...
Yes, it's a shame that Aliante website isn't translated!Mine are the following:

They are based on projects of the italian engineer Giuseppe Prato, a very compent person.
You can fine a small review of my model, Moda Pininfarina, here:

May I ask you, if there's a couple of active monitors that you really appreciated?

Cheers,
Andrea
