Greeting from the PNW: An introduction
« on: 17 Feb 2022, 03:32 pm »
Salutations from WA state! I'm a long time audio fan and am seeking to benefit and learn from fellow enthusiasts and their experiences. First, a bit about myself. (This is an introductory post after all!)

My life in audio began about 50 years ago. Hard to believe. My brother moved out and left behind his stereo which consisted of a Dual TT, Dynaco SCA-35 and a pair of AR speakers. To this I added a Dynaco Quadapter (my first kit!) and pair of large Advents. Heady stuff for a teenager. I learned much from my pop (RIP) and his ever changing systems. Names like KLH, Bozak, Audio Research, Thorens, Linn, Fulton, SOTA, VPI, Infinity... A litany of classic audio. My systems were of course much more modest: Kenwood, Advent, GAS, Crown, Technics, Hafler... But all with an ear towards better sound imagery and detail.

My current system:
Acoustat 1+1s with an RHLabs sub
ARC SP11 Mk2
ARC VS-110
Linn LP12 Valhalla with Rabco SL8E (pop's!) and Hana MC
Conrad Johnson Premier6
California Audio Labs Aria
Bluesound Node2i with Border Patrol DAC
and all held together by Marrow and Monster reference cables.  It's all decidedly vintage but it really sounds quite lovely. Then again, I'm somewhat"vintage" myself!

Now, after sitting for 20 years since his passing, I've recently inherited pop's final system which is currently in storage in FL but soon, I'll be renting a truck and driving it back cross country with my beautiful (and extremely tolerant!) wife.

B&W Matrix 800s
Jadis MC80
Jadis Defy7
VPI TNT with SME-V and Audio Quest MC
Accuphase DP90 and DC91 DAC
Nakamichi 1000ZXL
Along with various power conditioners, tons of Transparent Audio speaker and interconnect cabling and... ~3,400 LPs.

It's quite a pile! Anyways, I'm looking forward to hopefully gaining from folks' experiences with some of these brands and to enjoy the virtual company of my fellow enthusiasts!

Happy Listening.

As a fellow Washingtonian, welcome to AC! Sounds like you have some music with some good stories and good memories behind them which makes it all that much better.  :thumb:

Welcome from Sequim, WA. Reading your post I have a man crush on your dad, RIP. What a gift he gave you in moving you in the direction of such a rewarding hobby, love of music, and its reproduction.

Consider uploading a pic and description of your system on the systems page. https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=systems;area=browse  You have done most of the work in this post. Those Acoustat 1+1S and your entire system would significantly add to the drool factor when we browse systems.

Hello and thank you to one and all for the warm greetings!

Pop's LP collection is mostly classical with about 5% of it being Latin/Caribbean music. It was fun sorting though it as I was boxing it though by no means did I look at ALL of the LPs else I'd still be there boxing it all up!

@GeorgeAB: I have a good friend who lives in Sequim. He's got a Conrad-Johnson/Focal rig that sounds pretty good! I'll be sure to add my current rig to the systems pages.

I look forward to participating more as I learn the tools, etc of the forum.

Happy Listening.
