Hello everyone,
I am a longtime audiophile going back to the mid 70s when my dad first bought a Pioneer Quadraphonic receiver, Pioneer turntable, Akai Reel-to-Reel & four pre-owned Fisher speakers. A LOT has changed since those early days. Before "the internet" I visited untold numbers of stereo stores (back when the traditional B&M stereo stores still existed) to drool over my dream audio equipment. I've always been huge fan of live music, & have spent thousands of hours reading forums, review sites & magazines to absorb everything I could related to music reproduction.
I live in a very large, very old home built in the 1890s in Missouri. My room is a 5.1 setup with two open walls, two walls with large windows & 12-foot ceilings (roughly 2,500 cu ft). Very little parallel surface beyond the floor/ceiling. I am currently in the hunt for a speaker upgrade and to get back into some serious listening. The majority of use is home theater, but music is
always the priority. I prefer the used market because it allows me to purchase up at least one level, maybe two.
For my next purchase I'm looking for the front three speakers LCR, though the front stereo pair is foremost (the center will follow if need be).
I've narrowed my sights to several options including Salk Sound towers, Revel towers, Philharmonic BMR monitors, & possibly something like the Ascend Acoustics Sierra Towers. This represents an approx retail price range of $5K-8K, and maybe 60% of that on the used market.
WAF is definitely in play & so I'm targeting a narrow tower in a less obtrusive finish. No Ferrari red Sonus Faber or Lamborghini yellow Focals this time around

.
Wish me luck

Scott
