Introduction
« on: 14 Jan 2022, 08:15 am »
Yo! It's been fun delving into the rabbit hole for audiophiles. Lately, I've reorganized my living space to attempt getting the most out of my current speakers. Definitely not an ideal space, but my wife and I have hopes for a better space once I'm done with the ivory tower.

Though introductions are all well and good, I'm mostly interested in the plans for building the X-voce center speaker. I really want to build my next speakers (though it may be a while with the supply issues). However, the plans aren't on the gr-research website. Anyone willing to help out a soul searching for his next great project?

Welcome!

Glad you're tackling the room first (usually the biggest given).  Next loudspeakers are the most important component and should sonically complement the room.  Power amps simply serve the electrical attributes of the loudspeakers.  The rest is up to you.

DIY has pitfalls.  First you can't audition ahead of time, you normally have to rely on the opinions of strangers.  Second is the proud papa syndrome which deafens you to hearing shortcomings in your gear compared to others.  Third is the temptation to continual questioning the construction/materials and subsequent tweaking.  Fourth is the superior materials/technology afforded by state of the art companies/products who have decades/perhaps hundreds of years of combined experience, vast resources, and varied perspectives.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.
