The Sharp EX-111 is gone... as are its 2 little brothers, the ex-200 and ex-202..  All were around $100 and sounded great.  So, now what?  Any good recommendations?  I blew my chance at an EX-111 for a great price.  I really screwed up on that one   .

I'm trying to find something with enough power for a pair of Usher S520's which are 86db 2-way bookshelves.  I've got a little JVC that just doesn't get it.  In fact, I'm not sure what to do with it.... I may put it on ebay.

This is what I have now:

 Here's the Description:

The JVC FS-SD5 is perfect for any place where great sound and artistic styling are desired, but where space is limited. The lowprofile center unit features opaque blue illumination with a topload CD player, digital tuner, 19 watts per channel, Active HyperBass Super Pro, and full clock radio functions; all built-in. The speaker cabinets are a bass-reflex design with a silver finish.

Looks like the Sharp SD-EX111 is still available at Tweeter with free shipping.  Its a little more expensive than it was at Overstock, but still a great deal.

The Sharp SD-PX2?

I haven't seen it or heard it yet, but it seems to have even more features than the EX-111.  It has 5 amps at 35W into 4 Ohms and uses Sharp's 1-bit 7th order delta-sigma modulation at a 5.6 MHz sampling rate.  It supports Redbook CD, SACD and DVD-A and has an AM/FM tuner.  It also has an optical digital out and a coax digital input.  Froogle doesn't show it at cutrate prices anywhere yet, but I think I'll keep an eye out for sales and reviews.  If this has the same modding potential as the EX-111, I might be tempted into grabbing one for a bedroom system, especially if you could somehow coerce it into a bi-amping configuration.

Too bad that new Sharp is all mucked up with hi rez formats. I bet it won't be cheap until after no one buys it.

What about this Pioneer Elite thing? You could toss their speakers and use it for two channel, I assume. I don't believe anyone has commented thoroughly on the sound.

Or have you considered the all in one units from NAD for your Ushers? They are conventional and about four times the Sharp closeout price, but....

If it doesn't have to be one box, you could also do any one of the JVC or Panny switching units with the cheap Toshiba DVD player or the cheap CD player from av123.

I have the FS-1 version of this - the only difference is the speakers themselves, the hybrid amp and integrated cd player are the same.  It is essentially a 2 channel version of the ES-1 or F-10 - it drives the stock speakers nicely, but sounds surprisingly good on my DIY single driver speakers.

Could be worth a look - I picked it up for $99 on eBay around Christmas time, for a family room system that blends well...
