Don Sachs Model 3 Preamp- silver faceplate, cherry wood enclosure and remote.
Asking $1800, not including shipping or PayPal fees.
The Model 3 differs from the more well known Model 2 in that it has dual mono Khozmo volume control pots for each channel. The remote controls volume for each channel, dims the display, and also has a mute feature.
The rectifier tube circuit was updated to the 6BY5 configuration, per Don's recommendation and explicit instructions. It is said to improve an already wonderful sounding preamp.
This unit has two outputs for tube or solid state amps, with different capacitors values. I used a 250 watt Parasound A21 with amazing results and used the other output for an SVS sub. It worked beautifully.
The top of the unit (near the tube sockets) has some blemishes where a hairline crack in the wood was filled with filler, and there is a small area where a criss-cross pattern was imprinted due to previous owner's use of vibration pads on top as well.
It has a bonus AMR gold fuse in it, and will be shipped with two vintage Sylvania 6SN7s and two vintage Tung-Sol 6SN7WGTA tubes. This is easily an additional $200 value. I tried Shuguang Black Treasures, Psvane CV-181s, and even the highly-touted WE6SN7 big bottle Chinese tubes, but to my ears, the strong vintage tubes still sound best. I also have a stellar pair of Sylvania 6SN7W short bottles that took the sound of this unit into the stratosphere, which I am selling in a separate ad.
I will dearly miss this piece, but am doing a major sell-off of most of my gear due to a daughter going to college next year.
Thanks for looking and enjoy the music.
