Can we do a speaker design session in addition to our tube design sessions?

Sure,

What kind of stuff do you want to cover?

One book I'd like to suggest for anybody interested is The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook by Dickason. Parts Express has it for about $30. It is a tremendous resource. I refer back to it all the time for formulas and general info.

Is there anybody else here locally into designing speakers?

Hi Scott,
I'm very interested in learning more about speaker/xo design and considered this book a while back. However, from comments I read on audio forums and the online book seller (Amazon I think it was), it wasn't that useful as a start-to-finish guide to building your own speakers. Apparently, it didn't include any info on driver selection and matching, as well as other key areas.

What are your thoughts on this?

Dan Wiggins is going to sponsor something in the near future.  We have talked about doing a series on acoustics and speaker design.   Starting with simple principles and covering measurements set-up, & design software.   I'm hoping to sponsor it on our web site and I'm sure integrating it with an Audio Circle group wouldn't be a problem.

Of course I'd have to ask him first but I think I could twist his arm.  ;-)

Hey Scott,

Yah, I have some interest in speaker design, but don't want you or anyone else overloading their plate to dip me in it.
Seems to me, before tinkering with what I already own in an effort to make sound better, it would be wise to know what the heck I am doing.
Now that I have my Altecs up in the attic where I can tear them apart to 'enhance' on original old parts, it would be the smart man who already had a path to follow, rather than a bunch of parts on the floor with question marks floating in the air over my head.
I've been reading of other's goals this direction, but it all sounds like 'geek' to me, for the most part.
But, one step at a time, I'm not pushin', just hungry for information.
It would be a good idea for me to get those speakers done before my new bad habit of knives sucked the cash outa me.

Regards,
DF

We can definately do the speaker thing too.

I need to finish up the tube stuff first though. I can't seem to get enough time to get with Willie and G to go over the schedule. Been extremely busy at work trying to bring a bunch of prospective jobs to contract. Doesn't look as if it's going to let up until May. By then (surely) I'll be able to sit down with those guys and work out the details. With some luck we may have already scheduled or had our first session.

Kinda hoping Tim has the next get together pretty soon and that G and Wille can make it. I can sit down with everybody then and we can decide what, where and when. We can talk about the speakers sessions at the same time.
