Squared to Cubed upgrades
« on: 16 Nov 2021, 02:14 pm »
Hi;

Probably a question for for James. I just spotted a posting on CanuackAudioMart for a pair of 28B Cubed amps and the post states they were upgraded from previously being Squared models. I see in the post the faceplates are still of the squared generation however on the back it certainly shows the B3 naming with the serial # sticker showing the original SST2 naming. I didn't know this was a thing, that you could send in older series, perhaps just the squared series and have them upgraded to the current cubed series. Parts shortages, etc. aside, is this something being offered by Bryston and if so is there a price list available for the different amps? I'm curious how this would compare price wise to the trade in program that was offered for the 4B series of amps should that ever return for that model or other models i.e. I suppose what is the better value

Thanks

I purchased a squared amp months before the cube was announced. The square can be upgraded to cube, but Bryston decided that they would have to submit some different electrical requirements making it to expensive. I can't remember the specifics because its been too long, but I do know Bryston decided a while back it was not practical. If they decide to do it, I will be the first in line.

Thanks

Reading your post reminded me that this was discussed some time ago so I went back through the threads and years :) and found the discussion and you are correct, it was a cost thing due to having to have each upgraded amp re-certified.

I was hoping I was wrong. :D
