Look What I Brought Home Today…
« on: 14 Nov 2021, 02:25 am »
Look at these beauties I brought home today from a semi-local Facebook Marketplace deal. These were super well taken care of.  Not Moho but quite pretty. I believe these were called Palisander natural by AV123 but I could be wrong.

Anyone got a Palisander x-voce?  LOL.

What do I need to take these to the old Ninja QXX level crossovers?  I believe I used to have foil inductors, sonicaps, mills resistors, and Sonicaps platinum bypass caps with my old QXX.

Any comparable but better options?  I will obviously add No-Rez and tube connectors.

Robert

I dream of one day being the person to find something so unique and excellent on Facebook Marketplace.  Very well done.   They are beautiful.  It does make me want to build some x-static even though I have no place to put them.  I'm not kidding, if anybody is close enough to drive to Roseville, CA 95747 to pick them up, I will build you some beautiful cabinets just so I can look at them and enjoy them for a couple days before you take them away.  Robert, you did very well my friend.  I know you have been looking for a while.

Ah yes, that may have been my favorite color they did. Great find! Good luck finding the matching Voce.

Sonicaps with Miflex bypasses on the tweeter and mids.  Add a bypass to the woofer caps.

Let’s talk bypass caps since you mentioned it. Sonicap platinums or miflex copper?  Which are better?  Any other options?

Copper caps, especially the Miflex retains the clarity, but with a softer, more relaxed tone. Jupiter caps sent to be a little darker by comparison.

I really enjoy the overall tone of the Miflex caps. But itll be fun to branch out to different types of caps in the future to see how they perform. I'm almost ready to test my cheap crossovers on my NXStudios, but I also want to try the VCap ODAM as well as the Deulund bypass caps and resistors and Maybe even the wax/foil inductors.

I have sonicap platinum bypass caps in my X-Statiks.  It’s been a long time but I vaguely remember them adding a bit more air and space.

I have Miflex bypasses on my Super 7s.  Space, air, focus, and transparency improved rather dramatically compared to no bypass.

I had a Palisander pair many moons ago.  I wish I had the nice class-D amps to try back then.  I'll bet my GAN 350 amp and ICE AS1200 class-D amps will synergize very well with the X-Statiks.

Apologies for the rotated pic in my initial post.  Fixed this via PC.  Apparently it rotates when uploaded via mobile browser.  Bonus pic for the heck of it.  ;)

Sweet find! They are beautiful!!

Sorry, been away for a while.

I found a set of X-Statik’s from another member here! Took me about a month, but awesome buy!! Great guy! Price was right! They are in good shape! Came with all the grills (I took them off) and screws. I like the look with them off. They work flawlessly.

I don’t know exactly what color…

Also got a Voce from Danny… was supposed to match, but that did not work out. And sadly it’s covered In something sticky/plastic. Been trying to get it all off now for a while, scratched the paint, and finish 😶. Sounds good though!

Sadly they are not matched as well. Tho I thought I sent over some photos of the X-Statik’s and a match was found. I ended up with this unit. I’m hoping I can fix this.

I’m going to try and sand down the Voce and re-stain it darker. This point with all the scratches on the black, I don’t think I’m going to mess anything up sanding and trying a darker stain.
If anyone has a suggestion, by all means let me know. My OCD is a bit rough right now! Lololol

Beyond that stuff… They sound amazing. I am also looking to upgrading the By pass caps to Milfex 03-copper foils. And replacing the caps with Sonicaps. I have the tube connectors and No Rez to install!!  Looking at getting Mills resistors as well and ditching the lynk. Was considering remaking boards, but I think I’m just going to upgrade on the OeM.

The 100uf for Woofers… has anyone upgraded this with another? Or just left and went with the bypass?

Even with them stock, as they are… WOW. They are running off a Denon… but I’ve turned off the Audyssey for Left and right.. the sound is amazing.

I’ve got a Tube amp I’m looking to build or sell, I may opt to use on these. Still deciding.

I know this is not optimal setup! I’m a bit constricted by my space. I was looking to put the Voce next to the Statik’s, but with the marks my OCD went way to high. Lololol. So, back to the Tv stand she goes. They are 3 ft from the wall… Voce is about a foot.

Love those!  Those are moho natural (the X-Statiks).  The X-Voce is Moho Natural Diamond (glossy finish AV123 had for an extra cost).  They are the same veneer, just the Voce has diamond finish.  I loved Moho and it could vary dramatically.  Many had the yellow sap lines but some did not.  Your Statiks does not have the yellow sap line but the Voce does.  I adore moho and these look great even if one is diamond.

BTW... anyone know how much No Rez these things take?  I'm guessing 2-3 per speaker but could be wrong.  Ideas?

1 is enough sheet per tower. So a total for 2 sheets.

You can try using gentle heat from a hair drier to remove the plastic film.

I used an Erse Pulse-X 100uF cap for the Voce but never got around to changing them on my Statiks.  I just added a 0.1uF bypass.

Thanks Corndog!!  Thanks Robert!!!

Yea, I am going to redo the finish on the Statik’s. I hope I don’t ruin them! Lol.
They do have more yellow on the sides, was hoping to stain one, or maybe I’ll just sand and gloss the other.
I was thinking the Pulse X ones as well… wondering if the difference will be worth the cost.

For the mid section and highs, I am going to do Miflex by pass copper seeing they seem to be the way to go.. and prob Sonicap for the other larger ones, unless another option presents itself that would gain better results.

Finding these gems on the marketplace or from other members is awesome, keeps in the circle! I would advise anyone who’s really looking for a set, do some digging, make a post. Also, shipping UPS would suck, so use Uship! Worked great!

Sorry to post Jack Robert! And thanks!! I need to re-read

Post jack away!  Happy to share info even if off topic.  This is a good note on digging.  I found the above on Facebook marketplace by pure accident.

I search daily for AV123 and specific speakers like "X-Statik".  That FB Marketplace search algorithm is whacky and seems super specific.  Plus the owner put the title as AV123 & X-Static (notice misspelling).  Even though I searched independently for "AV123" and "X-Statik", the FB query did not find this one.  I just happened to search for tower speakers and it was the number three entry.

It was soooo weird!  I hope it helps others to see that find some cool speakers.
