"RyanFormers" died before being born

Hey Horizons, TheChairGuy and everyone else who has been waiting for an eternity for me to get these autoformers from the transformer manufacturer.  Sorry.

I have made numerous calls, emails and faxes to get the first company that promised to build me a prototype pair...to actually build that pair.  I told them there were possibly 10 others in waiting and maybe more if they built a good product that worked.

I have been blown off and left out in the cold. Maybe they will redeem themselves one day but they did nothing for me these last 4 months.  That's unexcuseable in my book.

So I've contacted a half dozen other custom transformer winding companies but most of them said it was just too small of a project to work on for less than a $1000.

A few of them just never returned my calls or emails.

So it looks like this is a project that will get set aside for now but when I have the time and will to try and tackle it again, I will.  Again I'm truly sorry this project hasn't come to fruition just yet but I will try again later this year when I have a bit more time.

Thanks Ryan.

That's cool. I can see how impractical a small run of these would be. Anyway, since taking a tip from you regarding biamping my 1.6QRs, I really haven't had the burning need for the autoformer that I did before biamping. I'm sure they would still help but I can now live without them.

FWIW, I don't think Paul's products are that overpriced anymore. His units are very high quality and also flexible.  So we all have that option if we want to try these.

Paul's products are wonderful and certainly a great value.  There are so many wiring options with his models that it's not even funny.   Paul is a genuinely nice guy to work with too (he's helped me on a number of occasions with my custom modded transport).

I'm sure your biwiring adventure has proven to be worth every penny.  The 1.6's are probably one of the best candidates for that mod (the MMG's, MG12's and MG10's would do well also...but it gets a bit more tricky with the 3-way 3.6R's or the 20's).

I was just hoping we could have gotten some autoformers made for $150--$175.  That's an easier investment to make for most...

But I'm glad I tried and maybe I will try again one day when I have the time (or maybe I will just suggest it as an idea to Paul to take up)...that sounds like the ticket!!

Ryan, thanks for trying. Let us bow our head for a moment to honor the stillborn child...

That's a good idea to approach Paul, although how could he undercut himself? Maybe make a specific winding, light duty perhaps, with a specific setup, no options...

Worth a try. BTW, echo to Horizons. I will report more on the biamping later, but it is looking (er, sounding) good so far.

Thanks KCK,

I don't want Paul to undercut himself or canibalize his business.

This would be just like you said; a no frills, no bells, no whistles model for folks who will just settle for doubling the impedance and nothing more.

It couldn't hurt to ask and I think I just might.
