Hi guys, I am in a new office and am considering building a small set of speakers for it.  Deep bass is not a requirement.  I am looking at 3 of Danny’s current offerings, Bravo, X-LS, and Studio Monitor.  The Studio monitor would have to be a stand mount, I would sit about 4’ from them with the studios against a wall.  I believe I could build a mount for the other 2 options to have them ride just off and above the desktop.  What would you recommend in this application (which will be played at relatively low volume most of the time)? My current speakers in the main rig are NX Otica MTMs, I have built several of Danny’s designs and all but the V1 has used the NEO3 tweeter, all but 1 have been open baffle (N3).  I considered using the wedgies but they would require a bass solution and I want to keep this as simple as possible plus I don’t have the room required for a typical OB speaker.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions.

Best,
Ed

The Studio Monitors are going to sound like your Otica's. The Bravo and Encore will not be at that level of sound quality although still really good.

  • Without music, life would be a mistake.
No question, IMO the Studio Monitor is going to be the best option.

I have the LGKs on my office desk. Sound great, plenty of bass, and don’t take up much realestate. You will have to wait on the 2.0s though

Thanks guys, yes the studio is the best speaker I am certain, and as mentioned it likely has a similar sound to the NXOticas, even the Wedgies have a similar sound to the Oticas. I guess what I was trying to ask about was more aligned to the application, low volume nearfield listening.  I guess the  Studio monitors are basically designed for that application, so the answer remains the same.

I love the veneer on your LGKs Mike, good suggestion, I don’t know when the gen2s will be available. The size is more appealing than the Studio.

Thanks,
Ed

we have a small number of test drivers, we just need to design a new cabinet for them.
There is a batch of 1000 new LGKs on the water, along with more M165 8Ohm but may be a couple months before they arrive.

It really just depends on what you are wanting most. I think you already know how the NX-Studio Monitors sound. They sound just like your NX-Otica's in a smaller package, but the X-Bravo is about half their size and they do sound really good.
