JVC RX-F10 and Gallo Reference 3

Gallos are about 50 hours into the burn-in process...playing em at 95dB, with a coupla sleeping bags/comforters carefully placed to muffle the noise from the neighbors during the long hours of low-frequency thumping whillst I'm at work...They seem to be headed to be truly exceptional speaker. They actually sounded quite good out of the box, then about 10 hours in, took on a dullness in hugh-end as well as lower frequency (to be expected, I'm told by the accompanying literature and some reports I read). Now its beginning to pick up higher and lower end detail and richness, but I think I've got another 50 hours of loud burn-in before the 'clear window' opens...

The RX-F10 can be shut down, though, playing at too high a volume, or with a high volume with the 'bass boost' enacted...coupla chirpy pops, and down goes Frazier! ...Shuts the peppy little receiver off..but I'm talkin pretty loud, beyond what I would normally listen to...It's a power
limitation of the receiver, not a shortcoming of the speakes.

At this point, the speakers sound really good with the JVC at moderate to loud levels...they flatten with this combination with low level listening, at least at this point in their adolescence...

I must say I will be pursuing power conditioning a' la Chair Guy's rec's smeared across a dozen posts in a buncha circles...perhaps a small primer on conditioning and it relationship to cash outlay and recommended products would be helpful to this listener from the C.G., were he to have the time...like at this cost, I would recommend THIS, and at that cost, I would recommend THAT, but if ya REALLY want to hear what the JVC can do, then I think the Sultan of Brunei is casting off his used powerBar Elite in favor of the Lotus PowerBar Elite, and his representative might be able to do something for you-kinda thing.

Would I correct in assuming the es-L1 wouldn't be a particularly good match for these speakers?

Hey srayle,

If the F10 is shutting down playing, then the ES1sl will likely shut down far earlier still.  I say 'likely' as it may be the crank factor your using trips a thermal relay inside the F10 and that's what's doing it, rather than the inability to drive them.  The ES1 can't handle 4 ohm < loads and it runs hotter to boot, typically, but it sounds better (to me) if none of that matters.

hehe - power conditioning.  I hope I don't sound like a dick on that subject - it's just that to get all you can from the Little Wonder it needs it.  I think the best conditioners are balanced power units.  I've had Monster Cable Powerbar and PS Audio PP300 and Ultimate Outlet and they didn't do what the BPT 2 can do.  It drops the noise floor to essentially nuthin' and add nothing ugly back into the listening chain.  The component quality matters on these things and only BPT (among makers of balanced power units) offers cryo'ed silver wire, cryo'ed outlets, ERS clothe, ZSleeves, dampening, etc.  These little enhancements add up in your pleasure.

According to Mark Halpton of ZCable, the best BPT product for a digital amp-led system would be the BP 3...which has a 2.5 amp transformer feeding a 7.5 amp transformer for double conditioning.  It's over $1000 - def not in the budget league.

Hell, for less, I think the Monsters are good and the (standard) Ultimate Outlet is simple and effective.  $20 worth of ERS clothe inside will improve them a bit further as will a $25 HighWire PowerWrap on the captive cord of the JVC.  Maybe even those cheapie OneAC's might serve some real pleasure well beyond their prices.
