Hello everyone.

Audio Circle appears to want a certain number of approved posts and such, so this is my hello all.  :thumb:

I'm your standard type of audiophile.  I like mods and DIY.  I'm all about bang for your buck and such. I'd never buy a pair of speakers that you need to take out a mortgage for, but I sure as heck would try building them.

Currently my rig is: Computer ->optical->XDA-2 (mods)-> diyaudio FirstWatt Aleph J clone -> ELAC DBR-62 (stock)

My most recent revelation was removing my Freya+ preamp out of the mix. The tubes and preamp just seemed to get in the way. Everything opened up going direct from the DAC right into the amp.  Yes, you squash bits using a digital volume control, but the improvement you get from removing the preamp altogether supersedes that.  Give it a try.  :green:  I used to be a tubes required in the preamp type of guy. Now I'm a no-preamp guy.

I also have an Aegir collecting dust. After building my and burning in my Aleph J clone... I've yet to plug it back in to compare.  The Aleph J is just that good.

So I'm here to find some ways to bump up the performance on the ELACs, I think they have a lot more to say if I can figure out how to improve the crossover.

[from a fellow speaker builder] Welcome to the AC, Night Flight!

BTW; I'm with you on tossing the preamp.  I'm doing the same thing, streaming from a Logitech Transporter; using it's digital volume control feeing into a DBX Driverack Venu 360 crossover, with a single D/A conversion to the amps-- all driving a pair of homebuilt wire-stator ESL's and Ripole subs.   Don't need a preamp and definitely don't need any passive crossovers!

Enjoy the AC!
