Pair of Cocci-Dodd EL34 Monoblocks
These are built by Charlie Cocci, based on a Gary Dodd design. Charlie makes 4--6 pieces of tube gear a year, most of which is bought up a small group of audiophiles.
Modern design and built, with sweet retro look. These are about four years old, with light use. Familiar story, I'm looking to downsize.
Steel chassis from Knight amplifiers, circa 1960, and then powder-coated.
Output transformers are also from Knight. Power transformers are Hayboer, custom-made for these amplifiers. (5687s and EL34s require lots of filament current, and the power transformers are designed for this.)
All hand-wired, masterfully built, with short audio signal path and good ground scheme for low noise. Premium quality components and Cardas solder.
Easy to sevice, should that ever be an issue.
Tubes are USA-made 5687 and Svetlana EL34. (I also have a matched quad of Cryo'd Tung Sol EL34 available. But to my ears, the Svetlana sound as good as the Tung Sol.) EL34 bias current is set to 47 mA.
Hard-wired power cords, also made by Charlie, consist of Teflon insulation and silver-plated copper.
As shown in the photos, cages are included. Optional is an Aircom T8 thermostatically controlled cooling fan that you can just put on top of the cages. Good for warm rooms.
Or, because the fan is the rear-exhaust model, it can be mounted on the underside of an equipment rack shelf above the amps.
The amps are easy to drive. I used a tube preamp, also built by Charlie, that is a very good match for the monoblocks. I will list the preamp in a separate posting.
Local pickup (Allentown PA), or I could deliver for the cost of fuel to much of the Northeast. Will ship, but shipping costs would be steep, given current FedEx and UPS costs, and because the cages would have to be shipped in a separate box.
