Just ordered a pair of the M225 monoblocks
« on: 1 Sep 2021, 04:23 am »
After visiting Frank this past weekend and getting to listen to his Salk speakers and his new "magic" monoblock amps, I was surely impressed. Today I ordered a pair of the M225s for myself. I'm not sure how much to attribute to the speakers and how much to the amps, but the breadth and depth of the soundstage was astonishing. I'll post a more thorough write-up once I get some time with my own pair in my system.

Congratulations. Lots of happy owners of AVA amps here including me. What does the rest of your system consist of?

Hi,

Congratulations on the new purchase! Are you going to purchase the Salk Sound HT2's?  What preamplifier will you be using with the amp and speakers. In my experience the greatest bang for buck has been the speakers but when your at your level of sound quality it all makes a difference.

I think I am going to go with the Salk HT2-TLs; I just have to decide on a veneer and stain color. For now I'll continue to use my Wharfedale EVO 4.4s. I use a McIntosh MX-120 preamp/processor as it is part of my home theater setup.

You're going to hate me for this:

I also use the Salk HT2-TL's with a AVA Vision SET 400, the M225's little brother, for a stereo/home theater combo setup. I experimented with a couple of different center speakers but it wasn't until I got the Salk HT2C that the movie experience became a dazzling aural extravaganza leaping into the next dimension. The HT2C uses the exact same drivers as the HT2-TL so there is no tonal discontinuity as sounds pan between speakers or voices change locations. The HT2C is capable of going just as loud as the HT2-TL enabling a seamless soundstage plus the speaker is a sealed design which means no annoying male voice resonances creeping into the crisp clean dialog, finally you can hear what the actors are saying.

Your REL T9/i subs will blend seamlessly with the HT-TL's although your will have to lower the crossover point. The crossover on my REL Gibraltar G2 is set at 30 Hz.

You're going to have some big fun soon!
