Hi Everyone. My name is Shamil Albertus from Cape Town, South Africa. I just turned a young 68.
I am a Miller and Kreisel fan, and have registered here, because I came across a thread relating to the much sort after S-1 and S-1b models. I have purchased on EBay practically all the different models of M&K when they were still manufactured in the USA. That was many years ago, when, prices were still good and shipping costs were also reasonable. My favorite M&K speakers of all time was the S-100, S-1 and S-1b. I found that the S-150 was more suitable for Movie sound than music, but nevertheless; they were fantastic. I also had the S-5000 which cost me a fortune to import, because of the weight. They were the bomb with those transmission line tweeters.
I am an owner of an audio repair workshop and specialize in Bang and Olufsen and all other high end audio stuff, including Linn. So, I have come across a lot of high end bookshelf speakers, but none of them could be driven at insane levels, and without distortion as the Miller and Kreisel S- series.
I am also excited to see that Ken Kreisler is also a member on this forum.
I also love and collect Vintage HiFi and actually prefer the sound of the then speakers over the modern stuff, which in my humble opinion sounds a bit in your face. You tend to get listening fatigue very quickly. I listen to various music, but jazz is my music of choice. One of my favorite speakers, besides any of my M&K speakers, are my Linn Isobariks, which I reluctantly sold. Also my Celestion Ditton 66 speakers for their laid back sound. Another of my lovelies, are my Bang and Olufsen Penta Speakers. I have both powered and passive units. Also beautiful non fatiguing listening type of sound.
So, yes. You have have more of an idea what I like in speakers. I will post some pics once I have learnt how to.
Take care and keep safe.
Shamil
