best place to get Teac Tripath amp?
« on: 20 Mar 2005, 07:38 pm »
Sorry for the separate posts, but I'm after both amps.  J&R no longer stocks the A-L700P (and claims it's been discontinued).  Needle Doctor's shipping costs are too high.  Someone suggested Home Audo Superstore, but I've never heard of them.  Has anyone bought from them?  Are they reputable?  Anyplace else?

Thanks.

Amazon.com has the Teac in stock -- I got mine last week  :D.

Do a google search with the full product name -- 3 or 4 sites had the amp in stock.

It would be very disappointing if this unit is discountinued  :(

Amazon has it listed at $196!!!  Is that what you paid?

Sorry for the bad tip - I know both those guys, but was not aware that both had moved their Teacs.

Honestly, I would pay $196 for this amp... stock, and then invest in it further, if you like what you hear - I find it a great investment in quality sound, that punches way over the price that is charged.

And for the record, the Canadian distributor of these, still has them at $328 USD... or $400 Canadian!

Is there any corroboration of J&R's 'discontinued' statement? I know that the Teac appeared and disappeared from the J&R site a couple times over the last couple months.   It's possible it's just a stock issue, although it's not unlikely that it has been discontinued - budget products frequently have a short life.

I grabbed sleepykng's unit, so I have two to keep me happy. It'd be a shame if the unit was discontinued, although I can't see how they're making any money on it at $99 .

You can't find the maual on the Teac site, and that's never a good sign. (Thanks to the kind denizens of audiocircle, though, I was emailed a one.)

There are a few places still listing it at $99.  Needle Doctor (+ $18 shipping), Home Audio Superstore (not sure if they're reliable or reputable), and a few other places on a Froogle search.

Who knows what it means when J&R (or any other retailer) says an item is discontinued.  It usually means "we stopped ordering them."  They don't exactly want you to know the same item is still available from competitors.  Even if Teac discontinued it for the US market, it may well still be available in Canada and on every other continent.

Teac's web page is generally useless.  It's rarely updated, and it never lists anywhere near the complete product line.

The Teac was selling for $99.00 with free shipping at Amazon.com the week of March 7th.

Right now Wild West has it listed for $99:  http://www.wildwestelectronics.net/teaclegseral.html

The ones listed on the Amazon site at $196 are NOT directly from Amazon -- hence the higher price.

Unfortunately, it appears that this amp is no longer being stocked by some of the big outlets  :(

I'm very tempted to grab another one from Wild West before the stock is gone.  I would agree that even at $196, this is still a good amp.

Is Wild West a reputable outfit?  Anyone have experience with them.  They CLAIM to be an authorized Teac dealer, but their feedback on resellerratings, bizrate, etc. is mixed.

I wanted to buy a second L700P before I can't find them anywhere. Emailed Wild West, and they are out. Needle Doctor replied and they still have some in stock. I also found that choosing USPS for shipping was a more reasonable $7.00
