I just purchased a used Jolida 801A, and I'll need to get the tubes biased. I'm a complete newbie with tube amps, and wondering why the manual states that you must hook up the speaker cables to set bias.

This prevents me from having the bias set by an outside technician, unless he has speakers to hook up? Or what's the reality?

I'm a little nervous about doing the bias thing all by my lonesome the first time around. And the wife is a little nervous, too.

Thanks,
Scott

Welcome!

If Bill Baker doesn't chime in here, I would contact him. (Response Audio). He knows all there is to know about Jolida amps.

I'm not familiar with the details, but the amp needs to have a load present in order to set the bias properly.
Any pair of speakers will do.

I also own a 801A. It's a fantastic amp. Enjoy!

Thanks all, with some help from another 801 owner, the wife and I got the gumption and biased the tubes. This amp sure is sweet, it sounds just plain real compared to the stuff I was using prior to today, and I've got to say that for $800.00, this used 801 is the best investment in audio that I've made in 20 years. Well, next to the MG 1.6 that we just purchased! But they cost quite a bit more. It's one heck of a combo!

Regards and happy listening to all
