Hey Chris,

Why are you selling these?  Secondly, what is the range of weights that the pods will support optimally?

Thanks,
Bob

Selling because I found I needed to move my speakers periodically.

I don't think there was a weight chart when I purchased them. I told John what my speakers weighed and he sent these. I'll try to find out.

A couple more questions:

What speakers did you use with these?  What was their weight each?
What was the height of the steel plate when the speakers were on the platforms?

I have a pair of VMPS RM40 BCSE speakers w/ MLS cabinets that weigh 260 lbs. each and SP Technology Revelation MK-V's that weigh about 175 lbs. each, and very top heavy.  The Rev's are also 22" deep--is that a problem?

Thanks for your answers,
Bob

Townshend makes load pods that are 5 different weight categories for the size 3 podiums.  I've talked to John and I don't think they make one that goes from 120 lbs. and up to whatever.  Did John have them made specifically for your speakers?

Bob,

My speakers weight 225 and are well within the range.

22" deep will overhang one inch in front and back which is not a problem. However, that length will dictate that they be no wider than 15".

I just wrote to John to find out the answer to that question.

Thanks for the info Chris!

I have all my equipment on Star Sound Sistrum platforms.  The speakers are also on Sistrum SP-101's.  They sound incredible, BUT...they are 5" off the ground on the Sistrums and they sit on 3 two inch long points.  The front of the speaker has the 2 points they balance on and the rear only has one point.  The SP Tech's are a top heavy 2-piece speaker.  The top portion is about 100 lbs. and has all the drivers in it.  The bottom cabinet is a large transmission line with a rectangular port that connects to an identical  one on the bottom of the top cabinet and is sealed so it acts as a huge cabinet for the bass drivers to use to make much more prodigious bass.  I would love to lower the height of the whole speaker and the Townshend podiums would do so be about 4.5".This would make the speakers more stable if bumped.  The sound may be better than the Sistrums by having them on the podiums.  I'm not sure of that.  It would cost me overall to go the your podiums although the list price for them is quite similar.  Being as I have 8 young grandchildren who visit for a few days every year and sometimes twice from the east coast, they like music and come down to my room to listen.  They are all girls but one and they like to dance.  I would feel much better with the Townshend setup than having the speaker on the 3 points 5" up in the air for safety reasons.  Secondly, my system is now pretty darn awesome sounding in all ways and is tweaked to the nines.   I took the connective parts of the SP's out from the speaker and did the Star Sound mods to them with great success--much more clear and dynamic sounding since.  Losing the height 4.5" would put the tweeter much closer to ear level which would also be a good thing.

What speakers do you own and how would you describe the change in sound after putting them on the podiums?  I know what reviewers have said about the podiums, but I like to hear it from actual owners even more.

Thanks,
Bob

My speakers are 12.5"w.  So fitting on the podiums is no problem.  Can you give me a call?  8135396405

Hi Chris,

I lost your message.  If you could reply to this, PM me, or phone I will know what you were saying.  I'm not the swiftest tool in the shed for technology--better than I was, however.

Thanks,
Bob

Hey Chris,

Thanks you for a very smooth transaction that I think went pretty well for both of us.

One thing I like to do with those I buy or sell from that has been a big boost to my listening pleasure; do you have some albums either on CD or records that are both good sounding and good music at the same time?  If you give me your music preference, I'll give you a list of those I find good both ways.  I have preference for rock, soul, jazz, female singers, and singing groups--multi harmonies.  I only have about 2 dozen classical albums, BUT...if you have one of those in the very good category, I'd be good with that, too.

Best regards,
Bob

Bob,

You're welcome! A pleasure.

Your preferences pretty much mimic mine. Here are a few I enjoy very much:

Sarah Jarosz - "World On The Ground", "Build Me Up From Bones".
Loreena McKennitt - "An Ancient Muse".
Donald Fagen - "The Nightfly", "Sunken Condos".
Jesse Cook - "Gravity".
Weather Report - "Black Market".
Marc Cary - "Rhodes Ahead Vol 2".

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Received the podiums today.  They are like brand new and very solid in appearance.  Looking forward to hearing them in my system.  Will want to hear my speakers on the Star Sound Sistrums which the speakers have already been sitting on for almost a month.  Then I will switch to the Townshends and get them set up as quickly as possible.  I'm hoping the Townshends are even better sounding but I will be happy if they are close in sound for all the reasons I mentioned--thrilled if they are better sounding.  My amps are out at TDSS getting their upgrades to the power supplies and bus bars/wiring.  They should be done within a couple weeks and back to me.  My good buddy has the same amps and they are easily portable.  He may come over sooner and bring his amps and help me move the speakers after we listen some to what he heard a week ago at my house when we did the same thing with his amps being used.  This is a very exciting time in my audio world as I'm just finishing my second, and much more extensive rebuild of the listening room, plus receiving quite a few things that are going to make the music that much more involving.  The room is a medium sized one but definitely one of a kind and appears to sound very good--quiet but still having good life to the sound.

That's all for now.  Do you own some of the recommendations I posted?
Bob
