For sale: my mint condition VPI 16.5 record cleaner (serial number 28494) and numerous record cleaning accessories as described below. $575 for the VPI and accessory package including the PayPal fee and ground shipping to the contiguous 48 states.
I purchased the VPI on Audiogon in November 2011 from Gene Rubin Audio in Ventura, California. Mr. Rubin’s ad said the VPI was used, but still under warranty. The VPI arrived with the protective film still attached to the clear acrylic cover and looked new and unused. Over the many years I’ve owned the VPI, I’ve cleaned only 63 records and it still looks new and unused to me. (I know I’ve cleaned 63 records because the Mobile Fidelity Original Master record sleeves I use for every cleaned record come in packages of 50, and I have 37 sleeves left in the second package.)
The VPI is in mint operating and cosmetic condition and is conservatively rated 8/10 on the Audiogon scale due to age. The VPI was used in a smoke-free, pet-free, and child-free home and stored in my kitchen pantry when not in use.
The VPI comes with the following cleaning accessories to make a perfect money-saving package for someone buying their first record cleaner:
• Detailed, step-by-step instructions for cleaning records on the VPI. I put the instructions together from multiple sources.
• One Wagner Spartech 0503008 HT1000 Heat Gun to remove price stickers from the covers of used records. The heat gun comes with its original box and owner’s manual.
• One unopened 32 oz. bottle of Musical Surroundings Record Time enzyme-based, one-step cleaning fluid for use with record cleaning machines.
• One Hunt EDA Mark 6 brush to remove surface dust on records before cleaning on the VPI.
• Two VPI vacuum pickup tubes: the original that came with the VPI for vacuuming up cleaning fluid and the second for vacuuming up the distilled water rinse.
• Two VPI cork mats: the original attached to the VPI platter and the second to place over the VPI platter to protect the just-cleaned side of the record while cleaning the second side.
• Two Misto Gourmet Olive Oil Sprayers: a black sprayer to apply cleaning fluid to the record and a silver sprayer to apply the distilled water rinse. The Misto sprayers come with use, care, and cleaning instructions.
• Two Mobile Fidelity record cleaning brushes: one for spreading the record cleaning fluid and scrubbing the dirty record and the second for spreading the distilled water rinse and scrubbing the record.
• One new, unused replacement pad for a Mobile Fidelity record cleaning brush.
• Two VPI bristle record cleaning brushes: the original that came with the VPI to scrub the record with the cleaning fluid, and the second to scrub the record with the distilled water rinse.
• A partially used package of small Avery adhesive labels. After cleaning, I affix a small white Avery label to the middle inside of the back of the record cover to identify the record as clean. As you can see in the photos, I’ve also attached Avery labels to the vacuum pickup tube, brushes, and sprayer used with cleaning fluid; the similar items without labels are used for the distilled water rinse.
• Two new toothbrushes to use with distilled water to clean the vacuum pickup tubes and record cleaning brushes. The photos show the toothbrushes I used, but I’m including two new toothbrushes with the VPI.
The accessories were purchased variously from Music Direct, Elusive Disc, Sound Stage Direct, and Amazon. The accessories are in great condition because, like the VPI, they were used to clean only 63 records in a smoke-free, pet-free, and child-free home and stored in a kitchen drawer or cabinet when not in use.
In addition to the many accessories described above, the VPI 16.5 record cleaner comes with its original factory shipping carton complete with all packing materials, owner’s manual, and detachable power cord. The VPI and accessories will be carefully packed and shipped in two separate boxes: the factory shipping carton for the VPI 16.5 and second VPI cork mat, and a second box for the additional accessories.
