With my change of speakers, I have been putting more and more of my cd's into the rotation.  Here are a few that have sounded pretty darn good:

Whiskey Town - Stranger's Almanac, Pneumonia
Yes - The Yes Albumn (re-mastered)
Eric Clapton - From the Craddle
The Doors - American Prayer, LA Woman
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
Roger Waters - Amused to Death
Morphine - Cure For Pain, Yes
Keb Mo - Keb' Mo', Just Like You
Blue Rodeo - Five Days in July, Tremelo
Wilco - Being There, Summerteeth
Ray Charles - The Very Best of Ray Charles
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain

Oh man, George, isn't it great to find new magic in old discs after making a change in your rig?  I love that happy experience.

We have very similar taste in music.  May I suggest a few more good sounding discs to pull off your shelf?  No doubt you have most of them:

The Band--Music from Big Pink--reissue
Randy Newman--Good Ol' Boys--reissue
Beck--Sea Change
Cowboy Junkies--The Trinity Session (never reissued, still sounds good)
Natalie Merchant--Tigerlily
Talking Heads--Stop Making Sense--reissue of entire original soundtrack
Bob Marley and the Wailers--Live at the Roxy
Manu Chao--Clandestino

Some sure fire, no fail hard bop:
Cannonball Adderley--Somethin Else--RVG reissue
Art Blakey--Moanin'--RVG reissue
Eric Dolphy--Out to Lunch--RVG reissue
Charles Mingus--Ah Um--Columbia Legacy reissue
Jackie McLean--Let Freedom Ring--RVG reissue
Oscar Peterson Trio with Milt Jackson--Very Tall

Enjoy!

Daniel,

That is some great music you selected and happily I DO have almost all of them.

In fact, I literally just put in "Somethin' Else".

So when are you coming up for a visit?

Isn't Summerteeth a great great album.  Ah...Shot in the Arm, Via Chicago, ELT.  Great stuff.  I just played it tonight on my new Modwright pre.  What a pleasure.  Rickie Lee Jones's Traffic in Paradise, and Peter Gabriel's UP SACD (stereo layer this time) too.

Edit:  Wolf!! You got Dan's new pre, too, huh?  Great!!  I love it.  Listened to Ten Years After A Space in Time last night, in fact. :D

I'm very surprised you find the Yes - The Yes Album remaster any good.

I have both the vinyl and the CD, and the CD version (Rhino?) just sucks completely. Right now, even though there aren't too many bands that are better heard through vinyl, Yes is one of them. Zappa is one too ;):D

Well, tonight was a real treat.  I've got my system purring real well now, and thought I'd dust off a few older cd's to hear what they sound like in the new system.  One that I never got into when I first bought it twelve plus years ago was Rickie Lee Jones's Pop Pop.  I've always loved RLJ but guess I was not in the mood for her jazz covers at the time.  Well, WOW, what an incredibly musical and well-recorded album this is!!  I was blown away.  I mean, the imaging, soundstaging and pure jazz fun that came out of this little disc was amazing.  The dep bass on songs like "I'll Be Seeing You", the backing vocals on "I Won't Grow Up" and the interplay on stuff like "Comin Back to Me" (too bad her mic was a bit noisy in that one) are benchmark quality.  Her sparsely produced backing musicians are all top-notch, Charlie Haden, Robben Ford, John Leftwich.   Highly recommended, but then again, most RLJ fans already know that, I assume.  I'm almost glad I was late with this....a great "new" album for me.  :D
