Hate the term "bookshelf speakers" as few loudspeakers are actually designed to work in bookshelves.  Desktop monitors would be the more apt term.

Loudspeaker design has come a long way in recent years.  Residential consumers have finally started to catch on to the advantages of active design.  And controlled directivity has gained popularity as well.  Many active loudspeakers, especially marketed to the residential sector use DSP to adjust output to the room.  All this makes "kit speakers" quite obsolete.

Good examples of modern monitors include Kali IN-8 ($800/pair 3-way ported with coaxial midrange/tweeter) and Buchardt A500 ($4600/pair 2/3-way sealed with advanced DSP).

Welcome!

I'm a bit fuzzy on the input you're looking for. Are you looking for OB and box possibilities? A price range would be helpful too. OB bookshelf speakers are a bit unusual since most OBs are fairly large. I own Lii audio Fast8 and it does a great job as an OB for it's size. I've also built a couple of GR Research projects that are great performers for the price. The last being the X-LS Encore. Danny also offers some OB designs but I've never built one. Just a couple of suggestions. If you DIY there is a ton of stuff out there. Enjoy the chase.

Welcome to AC! :thumb:

Check out GR-Research's NX-Studio if you're looking for a DIY kit for studio monitors. They're a combo of an open baffle planar magnetic tweeter, and a boxed woofer:

Here's a good build of them done by Sonicjoy:

Good luck with the audio journey!
