Survo-Sub - Dual RCA Input Design Mode
« on: 21 May 2021, 11:49 am »

I just finished building my new tube Amp.  Dynaco ST120 for the pair of "X-MTM Encore" towers, which are accompanied by a pair of "Servo Sub Kit 2".

Issue:  This is my audio-phil room / movie room.  So I need the speakers to facilitate three use cases.. and ya.. have to program it all for "one button push" to make wife / kids happy.

Music mode:  DAC will get Optical or USB digital input.  DAC has four RCA output. I can room adjust front R / L for MTM RCA out and then lower frequencies for Subs RCA out.
Movie mode: DAC will get RCA input R/ L pre-amp out from 7:1 receiver. DAC has four RCA output.  Front R / L for MTM passthrough with room adjustments and turn off two RCA output to servo subs.  Direct RCA from "sub line level out"  RCA out.
TV Watching mode: Same as movie mode subs off.

Question:
As servo sub is one speaker.  concepts of R / L inputs only make sense if your using the passthrough to High frequency outputs.  Does the RCA R/L input combine signal (low frequency) or just right or left? Or how have others handled this issue where they maintain "movie use" where you need receiver to spit out low frequency" yet retain control to high end DAC when listening to music.

The right and left inputs sum to a single signal

When you order the kit, get the A370PEQ3 version of the amp. This version has two sets of RCA inputs but no output. One pair is Line In and the other pair is LFE in. The Line In pair is for input from a stereo preamp output and uses the sub’s crossover control for setting the crossover point. The LFE input by-passes the sub’s crossover control so is for use with an AVR that controls the crossover point.

I'm not sure what everyone else does, or what the norm is, but I have the PEQ3 version of the Rythmik plate amp. I currently only have one subwoofer, so I'm running it in mono:

Music: Source>Music Preamp(dual RCA outputs)>
     1 set RCAs to: Amplifiers>Speakers
1 set RCAs to: Sub(both LH and RH to Line In)

Movies/TV: Source>HT Preamp>
LH/RH Channel RCAs>Music Preamp (in HT Bypass mode)>Amplifiers>Speakers
Sub output RCA(Single)>Sub(LFE in and bass management through the HT preamp)

Eliminate the Tv mode to simplify your setup.  Our 18” sub is always on.
