BDP-2 Bryston Database Repair Aid Request
« on: 1 Apr 2021, 12:51 am »
Greetings  from a long time member/lurker.  As a long standing Bryston owner I enjoy visiting the forum regularly to see how people sort out their infrequent issues with the gear.  There are many helpful residents of this site that are much more versed in the ins and outs of the gear than I so the only other post I've made over the years was one regarding a pre-purchase BUC-1/PC to BDA-1 sound quality comparison to BDP/BDA combo.  Initially I obtained a BDP-1 for my BDA-1 and moved on to a BDP-2/BDA-3 with which I remain very pleased.
Any way,  I got inspired to play around with the (Beta) DNLA function of the BDP-2.  I think mostly because I could, not because I thought something was lacking in the sound coming out of my ATC SCM20ASL Pro mk2s.  I believe the sound with the DNLA function checked in Manic Moose (MM) is to my aging ears was different/possibly improved.
But I haven't spent much time listening cause I have managed to bork the Bryston database  with many albums having all tracks listed 3 times in the MM digital player as well as there now being a seperate UPNP listing of the same tracks.  When I use the UPNP listing to play tracks they do (what is apparently a DLNA) drop out thing briefly near the track's end but, that notwithstanding, they sound ?possibly? better.
I would like to continue evaluating the DLNA sound but the index mess and the dropouts are too annoying.
I recall seeing years ago posts with the proper folder sort for the BDPs but I haven't the posts to be allowed to search for them.  I think maybe if I could properly organize those folders manually or at least check them for errors I might at least fix the messed up MM database.  I did the database reset and later the factory reset, and I only made matters worse.
My music is coming from a NAS on an Edgerouter wired LAN.
Any info along these lines from this esteemed forum I would view gratefully.  Best Regards, Tom

I don't have any experience with DNLA as I only stream TIDAL or use my usb 1TB drive for my library.

With respect to your "index mess". I would suggest getting a high quality meta tag editor to see what may be causing the the Bryston database function to interpret multiple tracks of a single file.  I am happy with META from the Apple store for clearing out my mess.   The added benefit is you get educated on how meta data works in MM with or without using the Bryston database function.   I am halfway there and am still figuring things out.

Hope this helps

Since I can't edit my post: I should have said "DLNA" consistantly and indicated "client" was the choice checked in MM.  Also for what its worth my music rips are uncompressed flacs which I understand may not be completely compatible with DLNA.
GSDAudio thanks for your input.  I'm not an Apple guy, alas, but I'll look for a pc compatible meta version.  Best Regards,  Tom
