Vinyl Rules!

I’m new here so I’ll list my first system purchased in Honolulu in 1968:

Sansui 5000A receiver
AR 3a speakers
Dual 1219 turntable w/Shure V-15 Type II phono cartridge.

I wish I’d kept the receiver and speakers but now I have way too much stuff, too many tuners and over 25,000 records (www.tinyurl.com/McIntoshrules).

I’m considering some new speakers, currently thinking either Revel Performa F328Be’s or Tannoy Chevoit’s, and adding a new tuner (either an Accuphase T-1200 or a McIntosh MR87).

Cheers

Welcome  :thumb:
Certainly speakers and cartridges evolved a lot since 1968.

The best advice I can offer is dont walk run from low sensitivity speakers, look for speakers with at least 98dB or more, what will allow you to use a ''inexpensive'' small tube amp or even a small SoiidState amp.

Welcome!

High efficiency loudspeakers reveal any system noise and typically don't sound as good as lower efficiency.  IMO 93 dB/w/m is ideal.

Welcome to A/C. At your age, do you have someone to heft those large speakers around for you?

I'm half kidding here, but I gave up on speakers weighing more than 50 lbs. I just sold the last pair of floor stand speakers I will own, as getting them up the stairs was a chore. Same with big'ol amps, no more for me.

A Tuner-holic! Awesome. Welcome to the (small but fanatical) tuner-holic club. A Magnum Dynalab MD 105 user here. Lovely sounding and also available in the triode analog output version. Highly recommend putting MD on your list. I've owned both Accuphase and McIntosh in the past btw. MD tops both not necessarily in RF performance (all are outstanding), but in sonics. My two cents worth to another tuner-holic.

Disregard what JLM said, small amps tipycally  have lower noise floor.

Only Magnum Dynalab and Accuphase make tuners.  Magnum Dynalab  MD 109 SE and Accuphase T-1200 are the best tuners?

Damn, where do you keep all that equipment?  :D I had a old tube tuner fetish for a period. Still have around six. None in use which is a shame.

I thought I was swamped with equipment, but your description in AA is simply, insane.  OMG.  You must have an airport hanger in order to run this stuff properly but then, who knows?  Welcome to the insanity.  Many people here are on the road to audio perdition rather than redemption.  It would be cool if you can give us some visual audio p-rn of your stack.  Welcome to the insanity.   :thumb:
