... but my wife and daugther are out of town next Friday and Saturday the 19th.

Anybody want to come out ? Either day (or both) will work for me.

As for new gear, I've got the Opera LP5 with the Dynavector 507 arm and the DV20XH cart in on review. You can hear both of the super cheap players, the Sony 595 (SACD) and the Pioneer DV578a (SACD/DVDA) players (you will definately be impressed for the money). And finally you'll hear why I've been raving about the V-Caps and (soon) OIMPs from Chris VH.

I'll be there one of those days.   :D
I'll let you know which one later.  If you don't mind, I'll try to get my friend, Kendrick, to come hear the Epiphony's.  He needs them.  It sounds like the new universal player you are talking about will be perfect for and all Odyssey system.

Hey Scott:

Could I bring over a buddy of mine on Saturday afternoon?  We'll be on our way to the Maynard concert and he is fascinated by the high end.

I just ordered the 45 rpm version of Louis Armstrong plays King Oliver. I heard the 33 rpm version of Steve's and he said the 45 is even better.  Can't wait.

I can probably make it either day assuming I can find a sitter for the kids.  I think my wife works both days. Let us know a definite day as soon as you can. Can we bring toys?

Hiya Guys,

Lets say Friday after 7 and Saturday after 2 or so.

Blackmore and Mike D: Of course you guys can bring somebody, the more the merrier!

mark@marktwain: You can come either day. Guessing, Saturday will be day that most people will be here. As for toys, pretty much anything you want to bring is fine. Take a peak at the the gallery and the ETM website (my bio) and you can see what I've got here.

Brad: No DRD's yet. They're here but still in teh boxes. I've been buried at work. If you can make it down, why don't you bring yours :-) Those and your  45's.

Well....off to dinner and Pat Metheny with Kirch.
(oh, his new tubed system on a budget sounds WAY better than it has the right to)

Just repaired them: new power switch on one amp, new bias pot on the other. It took 2 months to get the switch from VTL due to a mixup on their end, so I got tired of waiting.

They still sound awesome.

Well, some of you guys missed another good one :D

With the late notice the crowd was smaller but that actually worked pretty well. Plenty of places to sit and everybody got to play more personal choices of music.

Blackmore and his bud Jack stopped by on the way to see Maynard Ferguson for a few hours. Seems like Jack may be getting bit by the bug here soon. In anticipation (or so I'm told) his wife lectured him on their bank account balance before he came by   I think Blackmore has corrupted him with tubes and single drivers.

Mark (mark@marktwain)(another new guy) drove all the way down from Qunicy and brought his latest creation a 6BQ5 amp. It's the re-issue of one of the Dyna-Kits. It's a nice, small PCB that was loaded up with nifty parts. We plugged it into the Big Fun System and let it drive the Epiphony's. For 18 watts, this little amp did right fine. The sound was just what you'd expect from a 6BQ5 design, warm and lovely. While it was in the system, we started rolling rectifier tubes and output tubes. We settled on a Ratheon 5U4G and a quad of Amperex that I had left over from my HH Scott  299. When we plugged them in, the sound absoutely bloomed. Anybody out there looking for a darned nice sounding kit project, I'd look hard at this one. It sounded really good.

Mike D and Kenrick made the trek again. I made the mistake and showed Mike and Kenrick my jazz cabinet. Next thing I know they've each got and armload of vinyl and are playing rock, paper, scissors to see who gets to spin tunes first. Then they have an animated discussion about how many cuts they get to spin when it's their turn. It was nice letting somebody else drive for a few hours. With all they found, we got into some pretty deep cuts on records I don't think I've ever listened to. We spun tunes until the wee hours. :D

Oh, and get this, Vasu shows up with ...... a turntable !!!. It was a vintage Pioneer (I forget the model number). For some reason it won't spin. With some luck I can get it working for him again. Looking at it's build, it should prove to be a nice starter table.

All in all it was a great time. Got turned onto some great new music (thanks to mark@marktwain) and got to spend some time with friends old and new. Thanks to eveerybody that came by

Thanks for the note, Scott!
Sorry to have missed the big fun!
(ah, life in the small city...)
Would like to have heard Mark-from-Quincy's amp.  If its the DIY-Tube interpretation of the ST-35 he has, that's a definite.  I've got one of those I bought that makes the 19's jump so good, but not tube rectified.
Ah well, maybe next time.  I was doing time at the knife shop where I work now and celebrating my son's birthday.
A different kind of 'music' there.
 :D

Regards,
DF

Scotts lowthers got me so horned up   I coudn't wait to get my fostex fe166e cabs finished so here are my quickie mid-western long-horns or a short-horns, yeah thats it.  I'm listening to them right now with my diytube-35 and you can't believe how good they sound with no cabients. Although I havent tried Snoop yet!

EDIT, Well I decided I needed some more base, Might try some Snoop. So I slapped together some cardboard and duct tape base reflex enclosures (added pics in the link also). Oooouuu, thats right....

Blackmore, you and Jack missed the highlight of the evening, Snoop Dog on the Big Fun System. We were doin it Doggie Style  It was completely obnoxious. Wanna guess how loud it was? I'll swipe a copy from my sons collection so you can hear it next time you come over.

I popped on the Ludwig Guttler you let me borrow. I decided to switch out the tubes from teh Sovteks to the TJ Meshplates. Man, I wish I had put them in while you guys were here. I played the Telemann and Fasch.......OMG  :o  It was absolutely yummy. I think I need to find the pair of those albums for my collection.

Wow!!!  Kendrick and I arrived at Scotty's place at 3:30 PM.  We left at 1:30.  That was one of the best times EVER.

It was about 9:30 when Scott showed us his jazz cabinet of records.  In what felt like 30 minutes time, the clock shifted to show a new O'clock of 1:30AM.
