Tom and Jerry, the new film, tries to modernize the Hanna and Barbera classic animated short series that ran from 1940 - 1958 by adding live actors to Tom and Jerry's antics. The results is a very mixed bag, the film has it's moments but I got bored and unfortunately so will your kids. The running time is 1 hour 41 minutes which is too long for small kids, it seemed longer, always a bad sign.

All your favorites are featured: Tom and Jerry, Spike the bulldog, and Tootles Galore as the femme fatale. These characters are all 2-dimensional like in the original cartoons but look very odd in 3-D New York, the other actors don't seem to mind.

Chloë Grace Moretz tries to keep the film on track and is a joy to watch. Chloë has been showing up in a lot of good movies lately and is an actor to keep your eye on.
Michael Peña is deadpan funny, and has been showing up in a lot of highly rated films.
Patsy Ferran as Joy the Bellgirl is the breakout star of the film, she steals every scene she is in.

Tom and Jerry also features Colin Jost in his second film appearance, his acting is wooden. I think the only reason he is in this film is to try to draw in Millennials. Don't quit your day job Colin.

Tom and Jerry is a big budget production, the action scenes have a lot going on all over the screen so kids will see new stuff with repeated viewings. The music is pretty good except for the singing pigeons. Now streaming on HBO MAX in 4K HDR, the cinematography is crisp and clear with bright eye popping colors, this is a great demo for your new TV.

If you have small kids, let us know how they liked Tom and Jerry.
