Another newcomer!
« on: 28 Feb 2021, 07:41 pm »
Hello fellow music lovers alike,

First time joining an audiophile community so I'm not too sure what a typical introduction looks like , but here goes nothing! My name is Scott, I'm 30 years old, and work as a nurse - my background is not as technological in nature as you engineering/hands-on guys, so it's been quite a learning process. This audio journey started first with HT a year and a half ago when I decided to replace my bluetooth boombox () as my main stereo since my girlfriend is really into movies. As what appears to be a common trend, and being a bit of a concert aficionado, I gradually progressed to a more fond interest in 2 channel music. It seems I've been hit with the upgrade-itis bug/rabbit hole early on and have trialed a fairly substantial amount of equipment. One thing I've admired about the audio community is how consistently and reliably one can buy used equipment. Audiophiles have a real knack for taking care of their equipment it seems, and it's nice to be in a hobby that the gear holds its own, even after decades.

Current living room HT/stereo hybrid setup consists of Denon x3500h AVR, Parasound A23, Definitve Technology BP2002s, C/L/R2002 center, and BPX surrounds (got the Def Techs for a steal of $160 on OfferUp), and dual SVS PB12s. Peripheral HT gear - Nvidia Shield 2019, Panasonic UB820, X Box Series X, and LG OLED C9 77". Music sources are streaming from 'premium' subscriptions of Qobuz, Tidal, Spotify, and Soundcloud via the Nvidia Shield or AirPlay using a standard iPad as a controller. My simple bedroom setup is a pair of Ascend Acoustics Sierra-1s, Yamaha s701 integrated amp, and previously streaming via a Chromecast Audio up until recently adding a Martin Logan Unison for ARC room correction and streaming via DTS Play-Fi or AirPlay.

I've learned a lot already from lurking these forums and am looking forward to learning much more from you more experienced guys and gals.

- Scott

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.
