B135 cubed volume control position
« on: 30 Jan 2021, 11:28 pm »
I've a new, less than a year old, B135 cubed. Although I'm extremely satisfied with this integrated, I still have a few glitches from day one. When I fist power this amp, there is a moderate thump coming from the left speaker and sometime from both of them on the second click when the amp power up. If I play the amp for a while and then shut it down for a while, and I then power it up again, no more thump, just the normal 2 clicks.

But my main question is, when I play the tuner, (Sansui TU-719 from the late 70s) to get sound of around 60 to 62db, the volume control is at the 11 o'clock position; is this the normal way that Bryston control the increase of volume, although what I like about the volume control is, it's extreme gradual when you increase it.
With the TT (Dual 704 and the Thorens 125MK2) the sound is a bit higher, maybe 65db, compared to the Tuner, with the same position, 11 o''clock. I use a phono amp Lehmann Audio BC Statement with both TT.
Reason I ask this, with my other integrated, (Pioneer SA-8800 80watts from the 70s) turning the volume to the 11 o'clock position will give me a much louder sound,  over 70db for sure.
Thank you all for reading this

Forgot to mention which speakers I'm using, JBL L-55 Lancer impedance 8ohm and advertised at 80 db with 1watt at 15 feet, or Dynaco A-25 Impedence 8ohm, or, Klipsch RB-51 Impedance 8ohm 92db, and planning to go with the Focal Aria 916 very soon.

Mine was giving a 90 dB popping noise between the first a second click at first power up. It would not occur if the unit was turned off but powered back on within an hour or so. A trip to Bryston service fixed the issue.

I run a pair of Mini T's whose efficiency is marginally higher but with a lower impedance. I typically have my volume set between 10 and 12 o'clock to hit 70-80 dB, depending on source and recording (say, pre-2000s CD or phono input vs current-day CD). That seems in line with what you are reporting.
