Hello from Lawrence, Kansas
« on: 9 Jan 2021, 04:40 am »
I am a long time audiophile in Lawrence, Kansas who has owned a variety of tube and solid state gear over the years.  I just built my first single ended KT88 tube amp based on the Blueglow/Abdellah/Kegger design and have had a blast working with a mentor on tweaking and improving it.  I also restore and repair vintage 70's Pioneer/Marantz/Fisher receivers.

Welcome to A/C!  Those vintage tube amps and receivers are fantastic sounding pieces. Keep'em rocking.

Rock Chalk! from another KU alum.
Lawrence was also the home of a great AV store, Kief's. I miss that place.

That was the store owned by Gale Sanders--the originator of Martin Logan. I bought many records there.

Yes, a lot has changed!  Martin Logan still has offices here, but has moved their production overseas and Kief's is now a shooting range.  Also, Sutherland has moved his operation to Kansas City from what I understand.

Here are some pics of the Blueglow KT88 w/Transcendar iron pre-tweaks.  This has turned out to be an amazing testbed for components and design changes and clearly demonstrates that *everything* matters. :)

Wow very nice clean layout.
Do you think these Transcendar are better or worse than Edcor and Hammond ?

I have never made a direct comparison, but from my research there were others that liked the Transcendars over lower priced options.  One thing I do like is that they use heavy gauge silver plated copper PTFE wire for the connections which matched what I used throughout the amp.

Thanks Brett, always wanted to know why they dont use the own transformers wire as leads tô avoid insert one more solder joint in the circuit.

Hello Brett,

Welcoming you from just south down here in Oklahoma, good to have another Midwesterner on the 'Circle. Fantastic craftsmanship evident on your KT88 SET.

I know the subs have been assembled in China for many years but I thought the stats(hybrids) we still made in Canada ?
