Introduction – A lot to learn
« on: 27 Dec 2020, 09:04 am »
Hello AudioCircle members and Danny Richie fans

My name is Edgar. I grew up in Germany and I played with electronics since I was a boy. Later I learned how to solder and some mechanical skills. I build my first PC in 1994 with 80486 CPU and 16MB RAM. Then I learned programming and the last 30 years or so I work in IT.

The best sound system which I ever had was in my car in 1990. I spend real money and sawed big holes in the doors and below the rear window for the biggest speakers which I could fit. At that time the best of Blaupunkt. Obviously there was a lot of external noise especially when I was driving. But it sounded real good – and loud.

Now I live in a high-rise building in Bangkok with neighbors and I have to be more careful with the volume.
First by accident and then on purpose I saw lots of Danny’s videos on YouTube and that inspired me that now I should build the speakers and amplifiers which I wanted to build when I was a boy but which I couldn’t afford at that time.

Currently my idea is that I want to build the x-ls encore, or maybe the nx-studio or maybe even the nx-otica – so many choices.
And for amplifiers I have DIY Neurochrome amps in mind, possibly the MODULUS-286.
I am pretty sure I should be able to get the electronics right. But it’s a long time since I worked with wood so I have to decide if I want to do that myself or maybe I should hire someone local to build the speaker cabinets according to Danny’s plans.

When I was in school I had lots of vinyl records and a tape deck and I was excited when I bought my first CD-player and didn’t have to worry about problems with those analogue devices anymore. I don’t imagine I will every play vinyl records again.

I joined this forum to learn first before I order and build myself. I guess it will be at least a couple of months before I will start with my own speakers and amps.

I wish all of you a happy new year 2021 – hopefully it will be a lot better than 2020.

Edgar

Hi Edgar,

Welcome to AC. What is the size of the room you will be putting the system in and can you get the speakers at least 3 feet into the room?

Happy new year,

Mike

Hello Mike

thanks for your reply.
In my current apartment I won't have the space to put the speakers at least 3 feet away from the wall.
But I plan to move to a bigger place where I have enough space for OB speakers.
