Meadowlark Blue Heron 2

Ok circle paricipants, have any of you had the opportunity to listen to Meadowlark's top of the line speaker? If so, what were your impressions? I have heard the up side and would like to confirm or hear a different opinion as I have no way to audition. Input appreciated.

I don't have any help for you Turk, but I was also disappointed to see that we don't have a Meadowlark dealer anymore and I couldn't hear the Kestrel 2s.

Can't comment on the BH2's, but I have owned the BH1's for the past few years. Imagine the newer version improves on an already "excellent" speaker. Everybody is their own movie critic, but imo, the BH compete with the Merlin VSM and Verity Fidelio's of the world. I believe Wayne Donnelly(enjoy the music - magazine) recently reviewed the BH2 and raved(as he did about the BH1).

Anyway, they are certainly a speaker worth

Me too. I love CO but sometimes I am envious as hell of George H. and the access one has to product on the east coast. The price you pay for a Rocky Mountain High

Isn't that reversed?

I have heard the version 1's at Daniel's and the version 2's at a local person's house. A friend owned the Kestrel 2's for a while as well.

The Kestrel 2's lacked any type of real drive and dynamics (in just a small to medium sized room), portrayed a small image, and were just an incomplete speaker from my perspective. At $2k a pop, ther are tons of better choices on the new and used market.

The Heron is a more complete speaker, but still didn't have the dynamics I would expect from a speaker of its size and cost. I found its overall sound a little boring and lacking. It won't offend you and it is pleasant to listen to, but just doesn't excite me in anyway.

I've learned a ton in the year and a half that we've been doing our Raves. Every solution involves trade-offs. I love my Blue Herons. That said, of all the speakers we've heard at our Raves, I've been especially impressed with the Focus Audio 888's, which also suit my taste and may provide more value for money than my BH's. I can't comment on the BH2's though. I've never heard them.

George is unusually well-positioned to comment on the Blue Herons. He spent several hours listening to them at my house using his transport, digital cable, DAC and amplifier. I think the BH's have more magic than George does but they are indeed laid back. Be aware too that the VMPS RM40's that George has grown to love are remarkable for their dynamics. They aren't for everyone either though, even when properly set up. Different strokes for different folks. I'm still going to kick George's ass next time I see him. Boring and lacking, George? Yer dead, man.

I totally agree with Daniel that everything is subjective and each comment (both positive and negative) should be treated accordingly.

Having heard Turk's system, I don't think that the BH 2's would really be for him, but I could be wrong.

Yea, don't listen to George, what the **ck does he know! In all seriousness, I certainly value George's opinions as he has a very trained ear and over the years has owned/heard the cream of the crop.

Is the BH less detailed/vibrant vs. the R40's, heck yes. But then again Dan and I do not have worry about dispersion issues.

Everybody is their own movie critic with this stuff, to each his/her own. Got hear things for yourself. Some like the more romantic sound, others the sizzle.

You must be reading my mind. I have been speaking with Jim about his speakers. I have not had a chance to check back to read your thoughts about the NY rave you hosted but I imagine you concur with the rest?

Btw, have you listened to the OW's? And how they may compare to the HT3? I appreciate your time and thoughts in advance.

My experience w/the Blue Heron 1's (and other Meadowlarks) is also that they are laid back. I wound up buying some Epos ES25's at that time and have since landed w/VMPS RM40's. I like more forward. overtly dynamic sounding speakers, so the Meadowlarks were a disappointment -- particularly so because I'm a believer in first order crossovers, some degree of time phasing, and the cabinet construction techniques Meadowlark uses, a part of speaker design I know something about.
