Interesting looking design which would be a piece of cake to DIY but I'm a little skeptical since I've never heard them before.

I've never heard them, but the review in Listener magazine was absolutley glowing.  BTW, you can buy the drivers from Speaker City ($120 each) and PDF's of the cutout and cabinet are available on the site--

I printed the pdf off about a year ago and just ran back across it today in a file.  I called Speaker City earlier today & they still stock the drivers at $119ea.  With the surplus of Veneer and MDF around my shop, if they do suck I'll only be out $250 and even then they would make a good X-mas present for someone 8) .

They are 16 Ohm drivers, so choose wisely, Sanjian.

i have the cicada drivers, four in a panel (OB)   they are pretty nice, very open, a little better highs than fostex fe164.  very low powerhandling in the bass, about 5 watts (ea.).  not for headbangers.  these are 12 ohm not 16.
good with tubes.   if you damar them you lose all the treble.  mine have  proved to be very durable.

I own them--got em for 400 smackers--very good buy.  they're hooked up to one of those tiny sharp digital jobs--my bedroom system--awesome for the money.  very airy and open as said before.  not great in the bass, but if you're gonna use it for low level listening I'd highly recommend.

My vague recollection of the Listener review was that the reviewer could analyze a number of audiophile things that the Cicada couldn't do, but that it was so musical that he just didn't care.  As I remember, his wife was a bit put off by that big Moth emblem on the front, but that she enjoyed the speakers as well and decided to put up with the insects being in the living room.

Thanks guys, I'm taking the plunge.  Yoder, sure these will fit down your chimney?

Moths will be replaced with these so I don't spook the guests
