Roon question
« on: 28 Aug 2020, 10:46 pm »
I’m not a Roon user.....yet.

I have an Auralic Aries Mini with LPS into an outboard dac (without volume control)
Auralic Aries Mini is Roon ready. I don’t have a preamp. I really like the Auralic Mini.

If I get Roon and use it through Auralic Aries Mini>Dac............can I control volume through Roon software?  I’ve heard that it is really good and I don’t want to use the software volume control on the Aries Mini.

This all gets a bit confusing to me.

According to this, “Roon Ready” does allow volume control via Roon.

Mr Bill,  do you use the Auralic Lightning DS app?  There is a volume control slider in the bottom right corner of the screen.  It works well.  I’m using the app to control my Aries G2.1.  Honestly I don’t think that I’ll be subscribing to Roon anymore.

I haven’t yet tried the Auralic Lightning software volume control but that’s a good suggestion. I have read about  the Roon volume control being real good but wasn’t sure about the Lightning volume.
I’m trying to avoid getting a preamp.

I installed an SSD this morning and importing files.  It is taking some time, so I just started to play some tracks for the heck of it.  Oh my!!!

I’m listening to Diana in 96/24, and it’s just phenomenal.  The clarity, separation, presence, attack and detail are astounding.  You can even hear the vibration of the strings of the bass.

I’ll try using Roon with the Auralic in the next week or two.  I still have my subscription for a while, but I’m really impressed with the Lightning DS software.  The Auralic community forums seem to not favor the need for Roon, and I concur.

That sounds great!
What dac are you using with the 2.1 streamer?

Latest Schiit Yggy (numerous upgrades from Gen 1 - I was an early adopter) with a Shunyata Sigma USB cable and Wireworld Platinum Eclipse 7 XLR’s into a VAC pre.

If a piece of equipment has been certified as Roon Ready by Roon themselves, the volume control function that is integrated into the interface should be usable (talking from a "fair" few hours of using Roon!).

It is a great bit of software, hope you enjoy it should you choose to go down that route!

I use the volume control within Roon quite often. I think it works just fine. Perfect For Roon iPhone/Bluetooth in my Workshop, Outside listening on the patio and once in a while even in my main listening area.

I luv Roon, and I know I’m not using every feature (yet!). Going on 4 years and I’m still in “known” and “just heard” discovering use with minimal discovery. Can’t wait for full exploring and discovering, probably over winter after the 10 days worth of albums I have to sort through...   :D
