Problem with JVC ES1SL
« on: 28 Feb 2005, 02:36 pm »
Hi,
I have had this little unit for a little while now to see what all the hype was about.  I am more of a HT guy, so I had sold the unit to a co-worker and he is going to use it more for home theater than for 2 channel but I figured it would still be ok for him.  He brought it back to me today saying that after and hour and a half of perfectly clear sound, one of the channels gets all distorted!!  after shutting off the unit and turning it back on it is clear again.  He said he could almost set his watch by it and another 1.5 hours and bam....distortion.

Any ideas on what this could be, how I could remedy the situation??

TIA

What type of speakers is your friend using? If they are 4 ohm that could explain it and why the unit is overheating and shutting down. I use 8 ohm and have never had a problem for HT.

I am using DIY speakers using the TangBand W3871S.  I thought it might be overheating as well, so I took the cover off...still the same thing.  it repeats itself almost to the minute in an hour and 40 mins.

What I don't get is how a quick on/off/on fixes the situation for the next 1 and change!  I'm stumped
