DIY speaker transport cases
« on: 27 Jul 2020, 12:28 pm »
Hi all,

I decided to build hard-case transport boxes to protect my new Jazzman Mk III speakers during the annual trek to Carverfest.  The hard cases can be carried in the back of my truck, even if it's raining.

The cases are two-piece interlocking clamshells made from light-weight 3/16 plywood painted with truck liner coating.  The clamshells snap together with (6) draw latches and a foam rubber gasket between them seals out the rain.  The bottom clamshells have carrying handles on each end, for two person carry.

Interior surfaces which contact the speakers are Styrofoam covered with synthetic felt.

Imagine the looks you’ll get driving down the road with those in back.  :o

I instantly thought of Grandpa Munster...

My wife always says she's going to bury me with "those speakers".

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Ya gotta make the trip in a minivan with those strapped to the top.  Back to the Future, bay-bee!

Have a great time at Carverfest but do it safely.

One step up the scale would be INSIDE and Wired up.  I would bet the trip would be more fun :flame:

Actually, my Carverfest buddy, Ed Atkins rebuilds those ribbons.  As far as I know, he's the only guy around with a supply of the ribbon material, which he had specially made.
