New HT amp, NEED HELP.............Please

Hey guys,

looking possibly getting at new HT amp. Right now I have a B&k AVR 202. I love the amp, very clean, but not bright. The only thing I don't like about it is, it seems to lack deep bass and there is no control to change it either (don't like that). Maybe you can change it, i just don't know how. The other thing is i hate the volume nob, spring loaded and its really slow!!!

I'm just wondering if I should just deal with those little things or get another amp. If so, WHAT AMP!?!?!?!?!? I know my 202 retailed around 2700.00. I have been told to just keep b/c for the money you can't get any better, but i don't know.

Speaker:
fronts: Canton Karat M 80 DC's
Sub: Canton karat AS 200
Center: Canton Karat CM 700 DC
Rears: Canton Karat M 30 Dc's

I previously owned the B&K AVR-202 and I thought it was pretty good, but ultimely I decided to replace it. I didn't care for the ergonomics and thought it was difficult to use. I also did not like the volume control. Additionally, as I watch quite a bit of TV, I wanted a receiver with Dolby PrologicII. PrologicII does a much better job of creating a realistic surround effect.

I'm currently looking at the newer Sony STR-DA5000ES. I have read some really outstanding reviews of the newer Sony "S-Master Pro" fully digital receivers. The little brother (STR-3000ES) was used as the 2-channel music electronics at the most recent CES show in the Balanced Power/Z-Cable room using a pair of the new Gallo speakers. Many folks said it was outstanding, even relative to expensive dedicated 2-channel seperates.

Currently I own a SonyES receiver and I like Sony's user interface and ergonomics. I've owned several Sonys, 2 B&K AVR-202s, a couple of recent Denons and Pioneers and I prefer the functionality of the Sonys. I'm certainly not saying the older Sonys are a sonic match for the B&K, but the new ones may be.

Enjoy,

TIC
