New on AudioCircle
« on: 23 Jun 2020, 01:25 am »
Hi I too have just joined AudioCircle.  I have been a fairly active user (also occasional poster) of Audiogon for some years mostly to trade.  But I see that AudioCircle has a number of interesting threads.  One of the reasons I got interested was to see who else likes and uses BPT power products.  I think it was an activly discussed product line here once upon a time.  I have owned a couple of BPT balanced power conditioners for the last 3-4 years and love them in my system.  I just acquired a BPT power cable model L-9C Rev S/N marked as 99.999% purity silver on the plugs.  I wonder if anyone knows anything about this cable. I did buy it used in excellent condition from a reliable source.  Thanks for any pointers.

Welcome to AudioCircle.  I use BPT products and Chris Hoff (BPT) is still on our forum from time to time.  Once you have full access to the site’s features you might try PM to him.

Thank you all - FullRangeMan, Phil A, Blackmore, ArthurDent.
Blackmore, that's good to know about Chris. I will certainly try him at some point.  His products are impressive. I'm looking forward to receiving my L-9C Silver PC in the mail soon.
Does anyone know of Linkwitz users here too?
My focus over the last year or two has been to physically isolate my open baffle speakers (LX521.4) and all components using basically springs and cones along with bases made of blocks made up by me of steel, wood and layers of Frost King mortite.
I also have worked on EMI/RFI isolation too with mostly home made grounding tricks too so I am sure I could compare notes and learn a couple of things here too.
Thanks for any suggestions again.

Please note that isolated speakers from the floor will produce less bass then when sitting direct on the floor.

FullRangeMan:  So first here's the approach I have taken.  Each of the two stereo Linkwitz 521.4 speakers is made up of two sections - (1) the lower woofer section with two bass drivers which sits on a well-sprung platform; (2) the upper baffle section sitting on top of a wooden bridge that does not connect at all with the woofer section, and this baffle carries the upper bass/lower mid, mid-range and tweeter.  My approach with this second baffle, which I think is even more important to properly isolate, is to place the baffle base on 4 springs on top of the bridge.  And then between the feet of the bridge and the ground I place steel blocks and Herbies pucks.  I got the sound to improve considerably using this approach.

If I understand you correctly you are saying that if I removed the sprung platform from under the woofer section and placed the woofer section directly on the floor, I would get better bass.  Would the bass be of better quality or just more bass (if that is a meaningful question!)?  And then wouldn't the bass feed back up to the upper baffle via the floor?  And also to the rest of the audio components which sit not far away?  Also, I should say that I do get a lot of bass from these speakers.  More than the room can handle actually, so that I have to use -15db Rothwell RCA attenuators at the amp inputs for the bass drivers.

These were my presumptions.  But interested to hear more.

Thanks

Nice this is what counts.
I would get better bass.
You may have more bass as usually happen in FR drivers.
You also will have a more resonant room. it should be used as a tool if you like the final result in the case of little bass which seems not to be the case.
