New guy looking to join in on the fun
« on: 21 Jun 2020, 06:48 am »
Hello all who may be interested.
I’m originally from Canada but relocated to the Philippines in 2017. Unfortunately I had to sell
My system and have to start from scratch again. It’s much more difficult to find parts and components here and shipping from US or Canada can be an extremely long waiting period.
Anyway, I’m here in hopes of learning a thing or 2 about my preferred form of the audio hobby, diy. Once my system is read for enjoyment, I’ll begin searching for great content to listen to.

 Thank you

 Bria

Canada to the Philippines, eh? Bit of a culture and weather shock I would think.

Hello from the Philippines!

Greetings & hello! I’ve come here to love & learn and once again try my hand at a fading dream. At heart I’m a true do-it-yourselfer but in reality, I’m not much on my own. I need the help of forums like this one in order to actually accomplish anything worthwhile.
I’m nearing 60 years old and for many reasons have now found myself living in the Philippines. In the move I have, in one way or another, lost possession of all my woodworking tools, almost all of my (partially complete) electronics projects, the years of collecting speaker drivers and components and all on my functioning stereo system.  I’m left with a few dozen vacuum tubes, an old Carry tubed preamp, an incomplete 3886 4 channel amp, some Pass inspired pcbs a couple high efficiency drivers , a pair of woofers I tried to recone and, a huge desire to get some music back into my life.
I’ve come here in search of  assistance through watching , asking questions and hands-on participation in order to get, up and running what I consider my last decent system before I completely give up on the diy construction aspect of this great musical hobby.
If all the stars line up in a nice neat row I’ll be buying selling and better yet, trading off all my surplus & unneeded parts and pieces.
Here’s the catch, I’m in the Philippines and this makes it super difficult to transact with the outside world for a few reasons witch I’ll not mention here. I feel with the size of the enormous population here, there Has to be some sort of diy audio community here but not speaking the local language and not having a clue where to start, I have yet to find my fellow hobbyists.
Anyway, that’s me, my interest and my internet.
 Thanks:)

Welcome Bria,

It's always good to welcome a fellow DIY'er.   Come to think of it; we don't have a DIY circle here (yet).  Maybe you could start one :-)

Thanks for the warm welcome Jazzman.
I’m a bit surprised that there isn’t a diy circle! DIY is, in my opinion anyway, one of the best ways to immerse yourself into the audiophile hobby. Building something seems to get you to really pay attention to the music your creation is capable of reproducing. It’s way more fun than just playing the ‘upgrade’ game…. I could go on and on about why I like diy audio but, I’ll stop here.
 DIY is Life!
