What was the first CD you ever bought?
« on: 18 Mar 2003, 01:56 am »
I was going thru my CDs a few days ago, putting away my discs after buying a few new ones, and I came across an old CD that I had (in my youthful ignorance) written my name and the date on:  Back In Black, 8/11/87.  That got me thinking about just when I bought what.

I bought 3 CDs together on the day I got my first CD player, I think in '86.  I bought two Judas Priest discs, "Turbo" & "Defenders of the Faith", as well as "Rage For Order" by Queensryche.  I can't recall the order or dates of numbers 4 thru 750, tho!

I was late to the CD "party" -- didn't buy one until the late 80's I don't think.

I remember my first *cassette tape* -- Night at the Opera.

First CD was Keith Jarrett "Still Live."  I helped a friend buy her new stereo and this was my payment (I didn't even have a CD player yet).
CD's were high-priced then and we went to a shopping mall record store, paying $40 for this 2-CD set.

First CD 'Led Zep II'
First 45 'Centerfold' J Geils
First tape 'Synchronicity'
First LP 'Yes 90125'

Interesting to see this.  I was on a classic rock kick when I bought my cd player in 1989.  I think U2's Joshua Tree was in the first 3 as well.  I think that's the only CD I have left from the original collection.

I have bought and sold many, many CD's... some regrettably.. some, I don't know why I bought.

Interesting, Max.  Highlander is the first DVD I ever bought, got it a few months before I even had a player!  Couldn't resist as it's my favorite movie.

Pink Floyd - DSOTM
Had it on vinyl, 8-track (actually melted 2 copies of it on 8-track, it welded itself to the play head), cassette, definently the first CD I just HAD to have  and of course, the first one I ever purchased.

Strangely, I do remember my first LP...
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River
christ! I'm getting old!

I have no idea what my first CD was, most of the 80's are kinda foggy. :)

45 - Hot Rod Lincoln - Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen
LP - The first BTO album
DVD - Pulp Fiction

These are the first ones that I bought but fortunately when I was young my mother was a garage sale queen and she brought home hundreds of LP's.

My 1st CD was Supertramp, Breakfast in America, 4 months before I had access to a CD player and a year before I owned one.

This was late '84 or early '85.

I think my first record purchase (in the 7th grade) was also Blackcat's choice of Creedence and something by BB. King.

First CD....hmmm probably 'Jazz at the Pawnshop'. Bought along w/ my first player, Conrad Johnson's venerable Sonographe.

(This one forced me to finally buy a CD player - I had it for weeks with no player)

LP: Beach Boys "Wild Honey/Friends" reissue in about 1975. Still have it.
