X-Statik vs others
« on: 13 Jun 2020, 05:13 pm »
I've been contemplating the X-Statik. I'm wondering if someone who has had both could weigh in on the differences between the X-Statik to the Magnepan LRS or other open-baffle/dipole options. Please indicate room size and preferred listening volume when you do.

My Room & Perspective:
My planned listening room/office is on the small side: 11 x 13 ft with 8.5 ft ceilings. The speakers would be placed along the long-axis due to the location of items in the room. Which means I'd only be about 4 feet from the speakers if they are 3 feet out from the front wall. I've heard smaller Magenpan before (.7?), not the LRS, and like the idea of the light panel to move them out of the way. I am concerned about the impedance load though as I intend to use a Sansui AU-717 after I rebuild it. References indicate the AU-717 can drive 4 ohm loads but some have stated they are anemic with Magnepan's, which I suspect is due to trying to drive Magnepan's to high volume at distance in larger rooms as others say the Sansui's do fine. I know the X-Statik would be a nicer load but then I've got to do the build (time constraints) and they are heavier to move in/out for listening vs non-listening periods. One more thing, I don't think I listen super loud, nearer 70 dB than 80dB.

Thanks in advance for the input.
