Hi All,

Im a recentish owner of a "used" SP3. My unit must be around 2016 as thats the last firmware installed.

I find the manual very poor, its just too high level and misses much of what the SP3 can do.

I have some questions on multichannel. I connect my oppo 203 for bluray/UHDs in to the SP3 via HDMI for audio only. Music playback is separated from this

Now I dont know if I havent set it up correctly or not but these are my observations:

dts - when playing back dts as bitstream, the IN correctly states whether its plain old dts or dtsHD MA 48k, however OUT only states the speakers being used, ie 5.1 or 7.1 depending what its set to. I have no idea if the SP3 is OUTputting the correct or not.

DD - DD is a bit different. When playing back DD as bitstream, IN show correctly however OUT shows as Dolby D EX whether the IN is Dolby D, Dolby D EX or Dolby HD! Again I have no idea if OUT is corresponding to the IN

Anyone else have this issue? Is it my settings?

So in addition to this, im not sure how I update the firmware. When I look at the file page, I just get this. Not sure what im supposed to be doing. I feel nervous enough as it updating the firmware

I thank you in advance

Regards

Mine is the same and has always been that way. I think I have a 2012 build.

klao

I also just got a pre-owned SP3, serial #375, supposedly older than yours, date 1243 (43th week of 2012?).

Luckily, I was able to upgrade my firmware per instructions in Appenix J of the latest manual.  However, I did it twice.

The first time, I chose the last file/line (2016_08b_MkVII) from "LIST OF FIRMWARE REVISION FILES" on this page http://support.bryston.com/downloads/sp3/ to do the update.  After that was successful, I did it again but choosing file for units manufactured before 2017 (4th line from last). That went OK too.

Not sure if updaing the two files in that sequence was really necessary, though.

Ok,so the OUT never corresponds to the IN then? Its a very strange way of showing it. I guess we just to take it on good faith that the bitstream is going OUT as intended. Thanks

Ok I will take a look. Im a bit nervous at doing this tbh, as I know I will completely mess it up. So is it saying that Units before 2017 will not get any new firmware?

Im not sure If there are any benefits in the newer firmwares for how I use it. For digital music I use "CD" input as a passthrough only as I use an external DAC. Same for Analogue, I passthrough. Its only Multichannel I am really taking advantage of the internals. Is there anything Im missing?

Do you also see that same issue with IN and OUT being very different?

Thanks

Just noted my serial number and build date.

Apparently its.......

Build Date:       Apr 8 2016 15:43:51
Serial Number:       000000-0000035

Now I dont know if that the actual build date of the unit or the build date of the latest firmware added. The fact you have said you serial is 375 and a 2012 build makes me think mine is from 1972 lol
