New member with non-typical music tastes
« on: 10 Jun 2020, 11:22 pm »
Hey all, I just signed up today.  Audio stores aren't always the most welcoming places, especially with the music I like, so I figured I can try further my education here.

My current setup is about 15 years old and ready to be upgraded.  Hoping to search the forums and dive in.

(ok so this thread is really just to get that post count up to 3)

Many thanks for the warm welcome.

At one point or another I've landed on a number of other forums, yet somehow only now just stumbled on this one.  Surprising; I don't know if the threads are set to no-crawl, but I can't recall audiocircle.com coming up in any of my varied Google searches.  Nevertheless, happy to have found it.

Define "non-typical music tastes," and you may find more of us like that. :thumb:

Yes, you would be surprised - in AC non-typical may be routine, run-of-the-mill, even typical. This is an enormous resource whether it be music, technology or equipment + coffee + bourbon + Tesla + etc.

I listen to a wide variety, but my favorite is liquid drum n' bass.  This can be soulful and jazzy, then drifting more aggressive.  Very Jekyll and Hyde range in sound: think angelic female vocals oven Amen breaks, accompanied with pianos and deep haunting/rolling bass notes.

I also like 90's hip hop (Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, De La Soul, etc) and jazz.

My 2 channel setup needs to play dual duty: background TV for a few hours per day, and then receiving my full attention for music and movies.  I say "receiving full attention", instead of saying "critical listening", because I'm in it for the emotion and enjoyment, rather than seeking that last percentage of detail/shimmer.

"Three, that's the magic number.  Yes, it is, it's the magic number."  -De La Soul.

That non-typical music brings back memories.  Nice.
