I'm new to the forum. I am a former musician which qualifies me to tell myself, yes that sounds great, or no, that is awful. A blessing and a curse, depending on the view point. I enjoy normal people. discussing music and audio equipment, especially, at real world pricing. I don't don't professional baseball player money to bankroll this hobby (obsession) but I enjoy taking steps to get the most out of what I have which is probably 'low fi' compared to many others. I am retired, and so I am not hopeful of ever owning a mega system. Thanks for letting me do a quick introduction. My likes are jazz, blues, new age, pop, Celtic, Viking music, some RR. No R & B.

Welcome!

There has never been a better time to find value in audio.  Check out the Cheap and Cheerful circle for ideas.  For instance:

Internet streaming of CD quality music with millions of albums to choose from is available for $20/month (Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon HD).

Combination streamers, DACs, and preamp that can connect to your TV are relatively inexpensive (such as $550 NAD Node 2i).

Active speakers that provide tremendous sound quality at affordable prices (such as $800/pair Kali IN-8).

So for roughly $1500 (including stands and interconnects) and $20/month (or less with possible discounts) you can have a very nice system.
