Greetings from Oregon

Hi All...just joined, primarily because my vintage Sansui integrated is fading and I'm starting to shop for new amplification.

Will prob be spending time in Odyssey forum for starters.

Looks to be a wealth of info here! I will try to search first, ask questions later

Besides Odyssey, what would you folks recommend for reasonably priced power amps?

I have rather inefficient speakers- Polk 705s - so need a decent amount of power, e.g. 150 wpc.

A vintage Threshold is a possibility but I really want something reliable.

Inefficient speakers is a long and winding road, if you get a 100dB efficient speakers as Klipsch RF7 or RF-83 you could use a inexpensive small (10W) tube amp, just a idea.

Oregon? I've heard of that place... Great beer, coffee, clean air, lots of hiking and outdoor escapes, not so many audiophiles, but that's slowly changing, high property taxes, and <mostly> laid back people. I like it!

Welcome to AC!

Outdoor escapes?  LOL, I wouldn't count wandering in my backyard as an outdoor escape.   :(

Welcome from the Oregon coast, outsider10.

What do you mean by "reasonably priced"?

I've found I like "transistors with some color", so have enjoyed both Pass Labs and his DIY "first watt" amps.  Some of them have plenty of power, but frankly you have to play pretty loud even with 88 db/watt to be pumping out a lot of power.  In any case, you can often find older-gen versions of those amps on forums/audiogon/ebay for not too much.
