Mullard 5AR4 GZ34 Metal Collar Rectifier Vacuum Tubes tv2 57D 57E Double Tested

TUBE #1 IS SOLD.  ONLY TUBE #2 IS STILL AVAILABLE.

Please read my terms and conditions carefully!

LOT DETAILS

This sale is for one Mullard 5AR4 GZ34 metal base rectifiers.  One sold and only one left as described below.

Tube #1 has a type and date code of tv2 57E (as best as I can read it). This tube also comes with what appears to be an original box and insert, as both the box and tube are marked “IMPORT”). Price is [SOLD]

Tube #2 has a type and date code of tv2 57D (as best as I can read it). Price is US$400.

I will consider some trade, but it has to be for the right value. While I have no specific needs, it does not hurt to ask.

Categories include tubes, audio (but no turntables, vinyl, tuners or disc players) and computer equipment (like a 2TB SSD, RTX2080 video card or i9/Ryzen9 w/ MB).

I first screened these tubes on a reasonably calibrated B&K 707 connected to a regulated power supply. The “GOOD” scale on the 707 ranges from a numerical value of about 66 to 120, but I can find no specific indication of what an “average new” tube should test. I have tested several different “new in box” tubes, and my experience is that the “average new” number will vary based on the tube. Also, the scale is also not very detailed, so the numbers I give are approximate (+/- 2).

The results are as follows:

Tube #1 96/94
Tube #2 94/93

The tubes were clean for shorts and leakage.

I then ran the tubes through my Amplitrex AT-1000 also connected to a regulated power supply. As best as I can tell, the test conditions are a Vp of 277V and an iP of 120.0 V. The results are as follows:

Tube #1
A FWD 7V peak A REV 390V peak
B FWD 5V peak B REV 389V peak

Tube #2
A FWD 8V peak A REV 390V peak
B FWD 6V peak B REV 389V peak

To be honest, I do not know exactly what these numbers mean; however, I did test three other NOS (“new” old stock) 5AR4/GZ34 (a Mullard f32, an older GT branded Russian made and an older brown base Chinese made), and all came out as follows:

A FWD 6-7V peak A REV 389-391V peak
B FWD 5-6V peak B REV 389V peak

Tube #1 is very clean with only the most minor evidence of possible use. Tube #2 shows a few more signs of use.

Based on all the test results, the tubes seems to be very close to “new” specs, but should be considered USED for the purposes of this sale.

Please take all of this information into account when purchasing.

I can provide additional information or pictures on request.
