Hey everyone! My name is Thad and I live in the Charlotte area. I’ve been interested in electronics and audio all of my life and now ready to take my interests in to the next level. Specifically, I want to get into some DIY and chase after the best audio without breaking the bank. Thanks for having me!

Check out the Cheap and Cheerful circle.  There's never been a better time to find high value on the shallow end of the price pool.  Even within their guidelines ($1000 systems for currently manufactured gear) sound quality can blow away mega systems from decades ago.  Streaming of CD quality music for $20/month or less which eliminates the hassle/cost of collecting physical media is just one example.  Leading edge DACs with balanced outputs and volume controls start at under $500.  Good quality streamers/DAC/preamps start under $600.  Really good active speakers can be had for $300/pair that fit on a desk yet can fill the room.

So you may be "disappointed" to find DIY is not as cost effective as you imagined.
