I hope to in the future. Currently working on a pair of the CST-1 refurbishments. Partially got them to hear one of Danny's designs with the BG Neo tweeter, even if they are a box. There don't seem to be any GR Research demo speakers available closer to us than Columbus, OH.

I am very impressed, the CST-1s don't sound boxy at all. Much closer to my Apogees than I ever expected. And I haven't made the changes yet. Plus they need a lot more break-in.

Once the lockdown is over I will make these available for audition.

Matt

Another MI person here... I'm in Rochester. I built a pair of XLS Encores and I'd be open to having interested people listen to them. Let me know.

They are excellent. I don't have a wood working shop, so I got a flat pack and enjoyed building them.

What did you use on the inside no-rez? I'm debating whether to use it ..I didn't order any and I'm at a point either close up the speakers with some open cell foam that I do have or WAIT longer

I'd highly recommend NoRez. I've used a cheaper alternative from Parts Express on my father's cheap Technics speakers, and it really helped dampen the cabinet resonance. (it still needs some braces tho) tho NoRez has the dampening layer directly connected to the adhesive layer, which would help even more. (The chaper stuff has a slim layer of foam between the adhesive and dampening layer)

The NoRez is worth it in my opinion.

So any open cell foam just doesn't cut it ?

Nah, it will only help with absorbing high frequencies within the cabinet, but it won't dampen the cabinet itself from lower frequencies.
The only other alternative option would be using a dynamat-type product then gluing the open cell foam directly onto that, but it still wont be quite as good as proper norez treatment.

I built the av3's and an av3 center channel speaker  I'll be mainly be using these for tv and movies, because no 1 in the family can put up with my taste of music, like joe satriani, Steve vai, ffdp, disturbed and so on.not sure if I want to spend another $100 on a couple sheets of no-res and wait to get these done because I  have the back of the cabinet off to insulate them ,put the backs on sand and paint

Why not just use a thin rubber seal/gasket material along the edges with some screws/mounts & just screw the back to the rest of the cabinet?
I know that means extra work, but it would make servicing them much more simple in the long run..

No kits yet

I have been in heavy research mode, looks like the pandemic may delay my builds for a while. Good to know there are some fellow GR Research fans close by  :D
