Hello everyone,

As luck would have it right before covid hit I bought myself a pair of KEF LS50's. My first entry into high(er) end non DIY sound.

Now, forced to stay at home, I get to listen to them ALL the time. Certainly a silver lining!

Looking forward to picking up great info to keep on improving.

There's a silver lining to everything, we just don't always recognize it.

Welcome to Audio Circle.  :D

Welcome to AudioCircle mocean, no its not bad to enjoy the lockdown. I am loving it too. If i was in the market for speakers and only had £1000 or less to spend the KEF LS50 would be it, lovely speakers.

I have created a routine for myself to put structure into the day, else the weekdays will be like a weekends.

I don’t set alarm anymore, but I still do wake up naturally about the same time I did when I had the alarm set. So I find I am awake from any time between 06:30 – 07:15.

So my daily routine is

I get up and go for a bike ride before breakfast.
Get back, have a shower, get dressed, eat breakfast.
Work on getting my music database up to date till just before 10:00
I start work at 10:00.

If I am not too busy I stop at 14:00 and go into the garden for a walk for about 40 minutes – 1 hour

Come back in have a snack while getting back on with work.
Finish work at 18:00 if I am not too busy else work till later.

Grab dinner and listen to some music and catch-up with the news at 22:00

The good thing with my routine is my office is now my listening room, so I get to play tunes all day long.
Since working on updating my music database I have discovered some records / cassettes I forgot I had. It has been fun playing through them, a lot have brought big smile to my face. Some of them I have thought what the hell! possessed me to buy such sh!t. But aye! I guess we all have some junk in our collections.

One bad habit I have developed is now drinking too much, towards the end of the day. My work colleagues are a bad influence as when we have video calls they have all started to drink from about lunchtime onwards, I try to save it for 17:00 onwards.

I have to say I am making the most of the time at the moment, as there is no point in being gloomy it is what it is. There are people in worse positions.

I know all about that. It almost felt like a cultural and professional obligation. I drank more than I wanted to for a while and nothing good came out of it. It’s tough when it feels like peer pressure, but it’s worse when your boss is an alcoholic and things get weird...

Yeah, it’s pretty mind boggling to see what some people are having to go through. The silver lining in all of this for me is now I have a greater sense gratitude than ever before. Having a nice audio system and the time to listen to it is a good thing too.  :D

I’m curious about those LS 50 but right now I’m heading off in another direction and space is limited.

Welcome to AudioCircle!
Enjoy your new speakers!

My wife is working from home now, she's on video conference all day so I haven't played the stereo very much in weeks.
Maybe the silver lining is I will go through hifi withdrawal and get off the audio addiction.

I'm working from home sitting in my stereo chair all day long. Can't play it while on the phone all day and then at the end of the day I can't wait to get out of my seat into another environment. So a little frustrating.... did spend one hour last night with some different cable combos.

Welcome aboard.  Nope, what could be wrong ? Bored ? Frustrated ? Try if you can to enjoy the peace and quiet. Soon hopefully back to the Rat race. I can wait. Well at least til the money runs out.

Hi from another newbie! I have been looking at the LS50s as well and wondered how you felt about them and what you had compared them to prior to purchase. I've read a lot of opinions about them but they range a bit and I wonder if I could do better at that price point.

I think you could you better - a lot better for less money too - as long as you can still get your hands on a pair of the Carnegie Acoustics CST-1 for $899!  :D :D

I admit that I'm enjoying the "stay at home" part of the stay at home order here in Portland/Oregon/USA.

I now get to listen to my custom/experimental speaker setup all the time when not in meetings.  Sweet!   :thumb:  While I am kind of known among my coworkers for the pile of audio equipment on my desk for music listening, no headphones I've tried are up to the level I can get with that speaker setup.
