Hi, I suppose I should be more specific, I love the YouTube videos Danny has been doing  and am very interested in the "kits" he`s mentioned on the speaker he happens to be working on in the video at the time. Was looking for any suggestions/experiences if anyone out there has tried it with a pair of these. I am happy with the sound but you know... is there more to be had? Thanks in advance for any info.

I have not worked on any of their products yet.

But I am always willing to take a look at whatever anyone sends us.

Thanks for the quick reply,  I am not sure what to do. Maybe just wait until someone else does it. They are pretty big to ship.

I own a pair of Martin Logan Motion 60xti and might be looking to make them better.  They are pretty damn good now though. And I am posting to get my 3 posts in so I can do a search.

If you feel comfortable, open one up to inspect the crossover.  If you see any Electrolytic Caps, Iron Core inductors, or Sand Cast resistors improvement is possible.  Good Poly Caps, Air Core Inductors, and quality resistors are a step up without changing the crossover design.  Check for any steel in the signal path.  Recently found steel nuts and solder terminals buried deep inside the connector assembly of a multi $K speakers.  Missed that detail when previously doing a complete rebuild of the crossover with good quality components that significantly improved clarity and dynamics.  After bypassing that entire assembly with tube connectors another improvement.

You may ask, are you sure Placebo effect not involved.  First, the crossover rebuild was done to one speaker.  Measurements and listening confirmed differences between stock and modified.  Improvement after tube connectors is based on listening to a couple very, very familiar tracks.  Both had a slight rough edge at specific points I noticed every time.  Chalked it up to recording quality.  However, after removing the steel parts from the signal path the rough edge completely gone.

For speakers difficult to ship to Danny, just a DIY parts replacement should help.  At the very least you will eliminate possible future problems.

Very nice pictures of a crossover.  The amount of cheese not surprising based on what I found in several speakers.  Possible Danny could reduce the parts count.  Duplicating that circuit with better components is going to require much more physical real estate.  The 220uF Electrolytic Cap replacement will be big and expensive.  Air core inductor replacements will be large.  If there is enough available volume, could do a two story crossover.  Maybe an external crossover?

It was proven years ago Electrolytic Caps should never be used in crossovers, regardless of flowery marketing language.  As Danny has stated repeatedly, a price point drives inclusion of cheesy components.  Cramming a crossover into limited space forces the use of electrolytic caps and iron core inductors.  Easy mass production is also a big factor.  Bet there is a lot of steel in those resistors.

Suggest take a look at the Humble Homemade HiFi Capacitor test.  Much information to digest.  The recommended CDE 940C series capacitor highly recommended for bypass application is a simple starting point.  Not expensive and for me has been a positive every time.  Add to the caps in the tweeter and midrange circuits.  If there is a positive audible difference, might be enough to start.

Since this original post we have had the 35 XTi and LX 16 models in for upgrades. Both models had issue with the woofers. They had break up and ringing going on in ranges that I could not avoid. The tweeters won't play down very low either. So there was no way to shift responses in any way as to avoid those problem areas.

I think one of them even appeared in a video.
